Chester Zoo Chester 2012 #4

Gigit, your observations on ROTRA are similar to mine. Great for the orangs probably, but not very visitor friendly. On my last visit i found it irritating that all enclosures were labelled for both species and you are not wrong in your assumption of what it's like on busy days - i went on a members day & it was awful, crawling queue and very hot & stuffy, & that was only in April! Plus i thought the viewing to the back outdoor enclosure was hopeless.

Two excellent pieces of news. So Chester now hold 3.2 Okapi if I'm correct, a similar number to Marwell, I like how Chester are holding bachelor Okapi's. Something that I really like the idea of.

Chester births 2012.

So the list for Chester breeding this year continues with the following births:

Sumatran Orangutan, Eastern Black Rhino, Rothschild Giraffe, Okapi, Capybara, Giant and Short Clawed Otter. So... What's next? ;)

Not to mention numerous hoofstock births, bush dogs, meerkats, rock hyrax and porcupines - and that's just mammals!

Black rhino birth, female okapi birth, now a sumatran orang utan - all brilliant news. Chester is a really great zoo and I am very glad that they have the sucess they deserve!!

Is there any news on the Giant Otter cubs? Presuming they are doing okay, they must be quite large now- are they visible publicly and do they know yet how many there are?

I`d be very happy is someone could post some more pics of Aung Bo with the herd in the gallery. I`ve known him since he was a little calf and that would make me very happy! How did the introductions with the herd go? Is he out with the herd every day?
Thank you!!

Giant Otter cubs are not yet on show.

Meanwhile, the zoo no longer holds Ostrich.

I believe that the only place that the zoo has confirmed that they have had cubs is on facebook, and they said they they did not know how many they have had.None of the keeping staff I have spoken to will confirm how many they have had, because they are not sure themselves as they are keeping disturbance to a minimum in the house.

Two is the number everyone keeps mentioning, which is based on how many have been seen on CCTV.

The area around the underwater viewing that was annexed off has been reduced, with now only the seating area inaccessible to visitors.
