I wouldn't get to excited there should be a couple of years before they have the patter of tiny feet.Visited Sunday, I know it's pure speculation, but the 2 Malayan Tapirs were standing next to each other and one had a very rounded belly, compared to the other, not sure how long they have been together or what the gestation period is, so don't know if it's actually possible?
Sorry if I said anything wrong, not knowing the species to well, and it was just a curious consideration after seeing them both together.
Nothing to apologise for jde, that is the beauty of this site, if you have a question, someone is bound to have the answer.
Maybe if they are successful they may be able to have some onshow in the future to better highlight the conservation efforts.
Interesting story about a new development and important conservation project at Chester - but a warning that those dreaded words 'off-show' are about to make an appearance....

A visit to the zoo today led to me seeing what appeared to be a *very* new Congo Buffalo calf - I cannot recall hearing any news in this regard for some time, so it may have been born today or yesterday?
Excellent news!Glad to see they're being breed in zoos somewhere.

Chester's herd breed very well - usually several successful births each year. And very nice they are too.![]()
