Which I suspect will be moved to other collections to look after.

Very likely, but not certain (even if it's the current plan it could easily change by the time the situation arises!). :p

An update on the planned BBC drama, Our Zoo which should air in the 2nd half of 2014
BBC to tell story of Chester Zoo in new family drama - Chester Chronicle

When I first heard about this I wrote to the production company offering them some background information on Mottershead and his time at Shavington, making the point that some versions of that period are a little questionable. They got back to me to basically say "Thanks, but No Thanks ... it's not meant to be a documentary but a drama based on real events".

Oh dear.

It will be interesting to see what emerges. Especially if, as suggested, it's set in 1929!

The former axolotl tank in the aquarium has been refurbished for Surinam toads (Pipa pipa), although the only things visible were some small, unlabelled tetras.

Been to the zoo this morning and seen the new Congo Buffalo calf and the baby White Faced Saki Monkey and also 3 baby Capybaras!!

I agree they are lovely animals. Apart from Chester it seems, there has been a reduction in, or rather a control in, breeding of this species in the UK for some time simply due to the problems of finding homes for surplus animals.
Not helped by a few zoos going out of the species in recent years ie; Whipsnade for instance.

Knowsley Safari Park had a couple of youngsters in 2013 too

0.1 Grevy Zebra born 22nd Feb to female, Nadine. The first Grevy's birth at Chester for 34 years.. :D

I'm not surprised at the time lag between births, Chester did not keep them from 1984 to 2003 and from 2003 until 2011 only had males.

Nevertheless it is good news, and I look forward to seeing her.

Great news about the grevy zebra birth! Visiting in a week or so for the adopter day so will try and get some photos of the youngster :) Looking forward to seeing her!

Not since Budi went which is quite a while ago AFAIK. Utara hasn't moved and I'd have thought the others are still a bit young.

Maybe Blackpool Orangs?

The Blackpoolies have not left, I wouldn't think, because their new house isn't finished yet. Are any of them sub-adult? The ones I've seen look adult.

I thought the question related to Chester's own young orangs not any orang that might have moved out of Chester.
