I popped in for a few hours yesterday and heard about two excinting new species - the llama cub (adult vicuna) and the giant rats (aardvark). Amazing.
More improtantly, I saw the beautiful banteng calf. I didn't know there was one so it was a lovely surprise. Does anyone know how old it is?
Banteng is about 2 weeks old. Two were born in 2013.
What do you mean by llama cub? Vicuna is a different species, and the zoo has both giant rats and aardvarks.
Okay, thanks. I've heard hyrax called bears, otters, beavers, porcupine, guinea pigs and giant rats.
still doesn't beat the Emperor Tamarins being called Cappucino monkeys![]()

A section of the site was closed as vets tried to coax the wily creature back to his home, while visitors were given free refreshments by way of ‘ape-ology’.
Tim Rowlands, the zoo’s curator of mammals, said: “Mr Wilks was spotted by a visitor and our teams were quickly on hand. He was being a bit of a rascal about returning but he’s now safely back.
