Gentle Lemur, of course means that the leaf turtles are in the former mangrove snake vivarium.

Oops! I lost my bearings slightly (but mangrove snakes have been kept in several places around the zoo over the past 50 years or so)

on the sites they had been allocated.

tapirs between monsoon forest and tigers
Komodos to the east of the banteng
malayan bears behind the tigers

If the Komodos are moving to islands will any of the other animals from Dragons in danger move with them and if so what will happen to DiD

Didn't make it to the talk yesterday, where will the new free flying avery be within islands?

Linked with this development will be a walk-through aviary for south east Asian birds and the new sun bear exhibit.

No new species were specifically mentioned.

Was a walk through aviary part of the original Islands plans.

May i put forward for consideration either milky or Storm's stork (or both) for the aviary. :D

that is very true, I remember them in the Tropical House corridor.

Regarding losing your bearings, you did steam up frequently :D

The following is the purest speculation, but I'd suggest that considering how *many* Komodo Dragons are in the collection the species will quite possibly end up being displayed in both Islands and Dragons In Danger.

Another question regarding the 2015 animal inventory in the annual report...what does the # symbol next to some of the species mean? Does it mean that they're kept offshow?

Does anyone know or did it say at the Islands and Beyond talk where the grassland and forest sections are going in the zoo

I wish you were organising the Chester collection plan.

grasslands will be most of the west zoo and forests most of the east zoo, because there are few trees in west zoo and lots of trees in east zoo.

You are right it is pure speculation,as the young Komodo's on-show in Dragons in Danger are due to leave the zoo before the end of the year,as part of planned moves of Komodos that are happening this year,as recommended by the studbook.

at the exit to the tapir house and it was not in the original plans.

Wasn't there originally meant to be a parakeet walk through in islands according to the original plans, I believe it was somewhere near the back of the Bali starling temple. Maybe his will be a variation of that.

it wa supposed to have been a walk through aviary containing Mitchell's lorikeets, and a non-walk through aviary for king bird ofparadise. It was built as the Bali Starling aviary.

The walk-through aviary interests me. I have reservations about putting storks in a walk-through, unless it is to be very large. I think it might hold some of the species that are currently in heated houses, but which might do better in the open air (with a large heated shelter for the winter). The white-winged wood ducks and the great argus spring to mind. Add some whistling ducks, a pigeon species, a pair of shama and perhaps some mynahs or other hardy softbills and I think you could have a nice display to become the Asian equivalent of the Tsavo Aviary. But no more Java sparrows, please
This plan would have the merit of freeing up space in the Tropical House and DinD for new species too ;)
