I had another visit to the zoo today, a couple of things noticed:

- Binturong are labelled on former tiger/sun bear enclosure, although if they are there were shut in.
- Reticulated Python exhibit is closed for refurbishment
- In the tropical realm, the former wrinkled hornbill enclosure now has Schalow's Turaco (Tauraco scahlowi) and Red-Tailed Laughing Thrush (Trochalopteron milnei)
-Both Hunting Dog and Chimp enclosures had signs saying animals where under veterinary
- Many of the bird sections (Owl, Flamingos, Penguins and Europe on Edge) have had new signage including an interactive one on flamingo courtship

Also are the Schalow's Turaco a new species on show for the zoo I've never heard of them or the red tailed laughing Thrush come to think of it

both were formerly in the aviaries on the lawn between the chimpanzees and realm of the red ape, which are currently being rebuilt.

Ohhhh alright makes sense then for it to be temporary housing getting them use to a larger space then also just seen images of the before menchioned species and both seem very interesting

Ohh very nice good to see they are introducing the two species early before they move to islands so they are more settled together cannot wait to see them

They haven't introduced the two species - the Sun Bear are no longer in the exhibit and have moved to the Jaguar house temporarily.

You misread the post. Palawan binturongs are in the former sun bear enclosure, the bears are not. They moved to jags because they are not getting on.There are 1.1 binturong, but given their size I wish you luck in seeing them when they are allowed out into the enclosure.

The sun bears used to be hard to spot sometimes with a fair bit of foliage in the enclosure, the binturongs are going to be even harder to spot, could be a good challenge to spot and an even bigger challenge to photograph.

About that as well why did they move to the Jag house that has confused me fora while now

They were not getting along and it was not possible to seperate them in the old enclosure without shutting one bear inside.

Schalow's turaco has been kept at Chester since 1984 and Red-tailed laughing thrush since 1987.

Thank you for that information I'm not sure on every pin point of the zoo's history yet cause I'm only 15 I'm more up to date on the modern stuff not like the rest of you who have visited since the 80's and 90's

With a little time, patience and common sense it is entirely possible for younger people and those less-familiar with the collection to learn rapidly :) my first visit was as recently as 2010, so you may well have been visiting longer than me!

In my experience (lot of visits) there's never a problem spotting them at Cotswold Wildlife Park. They like to climb - alarmingly so sometimes - so can be quite showy.

I am guessing from your comment then you are expecting Chesters Palawan Binturongs to be as big as the one at CWP,believe me they are not even close to being that big in fact are probably only half the size of the one at CWP!

Difference is that the exhibit at CWP is a lot smaller and a *lot* less well-vegetated than the exhibit in question at Chester; not to mention the fact that the Malaysian Binturong (the subspecies at CWP) is more than twice the size of Palawan Binturong :p
