But this is a species bred by the hundreds in European zoos, so though endangered in the wild, they are commonplace in zoos, so especially a place like Chester could replace them with a species that is more in need of help...

Sorry for having an opinion zoogiraffe but we do not yet know what is to happen with the lions (but clearly you do) I admit to over exaggerating its just a shame to loose a great species such as the Asian lions however it would be lovely if they were to replace them with Africans as you mentioned. Sorry for upsetting you!

Plans have been submitted for a overhall of the car parks, large areas will be tarmac and others eco standing. New access roads around the car parks and lighting also planned. plus better designated walk ways.
 
I was shocked at the end of tonight's episode when the orangutan was on the roof! Cant wait until next week to see how it got there.:p

Didn't the chimps once get out or was that twycross?
 
Also many Keepers are mentioning Pangolin's to me as favourite animals, be it coincidence but I've a sneaky feeling we may see some at Chester soon though that may just be my mind trying to make ridiculous links.

I know such a monumental birth as well left o a small line in a Keeper Bio. Has this ever shown up in a Membership Magazine, This has to be recent has from Memory Dave's bio is a newer one.

I didn't see this episode but presume the Orangutan was a fairly recent happening. However some years back I believe Puluh also got onto the roof of the old Orangutan house.

Chester's chimps only got out into the service area of the building but they also had a chimp escape many years ago from the original moated islands. She was shot I think.

I think you're off into the realms of fantasy there Charlie. It would be brilliant, don't get me wrong, but Pangolin are hard to keep and there are none in captivity in the western world. I would say the chances are approaching zero.

Eh, yes there are, Leipzig and a few off show in America.
 
I didn't know Leipzig had them. Well, every day's a school day! That's good to learn, and I'm not sure how it passed me by.

But I still think Chester's chances are approaching zero. Happy to be wrong, naturally.
 
The Orang escape took place back in the Summer. At no point did they leave Monsoon Forest. Briefly reported in the previous Chester thread

The most famous incidents involved two males: Compo, who had to be shot, and Solomon, who climbed a pylon and was electrocuted. The stories are in 'Zoo without Bars' and are mentioned in old Chester threads here.
 
Waldrapp Ibis first bred in the aviary alongside the old parrot house which was smaller than europe on the Edge, I think the condor aviary will be good for them, it has everything they want i.e. cliffs.

At the recent talk by the bird team at Chester, the waldrapp ibis were given a lot of coverage and were obviously considered an important species for those concerned. There was no hint of them discontinuing the breeding program, so that remains to be seen.

Was any other information about the bird collection at Chester given?
