I remember watching Kipedo's birth last year on secret life of the zoo(i think). It was outstanding.Who is his mother and what are their ages?

Orla is the mother, she is about 8 years old and Kidepo is just under 18 months.

Thanks magpie goose. So it looks like Zahra will have to be exported as she won't breed with her father.

They could easily change males once Zarha is old enough if they wanted to keep her

Brief note today; the Tsavo Aviary is closed as a protection against bird 'flu, the Tropical Realm remains open.

Anyone who's been recently, following Kiki's death are introductions to Vila, the remaining chimp from Gelsenkirchen, still underway or is the group fully mixed now?

The cassowaries are also off display due to bird flu protection, the Bali Temple aviary is closed, the flamingos are locked in their house, and the flock of grosbeak starlings are no longer free flying in Monsoon Forest- all the other birds are though.

This was the case when I visited in late November, prior to the bird flu warning being released, and as such will be unrelated to aforementioned precautions.

So the only current open bird areas are the parrot breeding centre, owls, tropical realm, monsoon forest and a few aviaries scattered around the place, are any others off show now to the public because of the out break?

Those were the only closures I noticed today; I did not visit the owls or parrot breeding centre. The flamingos are still visible in their house, the penguins were still out, no changes to the tropical realm, wetland aviary or Europe on the Edge. One other thing to note- the male Batagur is looking splendid in his breeding colours- I was unable to take a zoochat-worthy picture, sadly!

The Giraffe calf has been sexed as a male and given the name Murchison (after the Murchison falls in Uganda)

Sorry if it's been already mentioned, Kirk's dik-dik pair and new baby are in with the okapis. Red duikers no longer at the zoo.
