From the zoo's Instagram it appears the sloth outdoors has been opened....not sure for how long it's been open, but they posted a video of their male climbing along the ropes outside with a blue sky and white clouds behind him :)

Visited on Sunday. Two Sloth were outside using the ropes. First time I have seen Sloth gather a crowd! Truly outstanding exhibit. Be interesting to see if they use the outside when it is not boiling hot. Congratulations to whoever thought of this, it is brilliant.

Lucky you! I was there yesterday and thought I was lucky to see one of their arms protruding from the porthole! Turns out one had been out, just not on one of my frequent returns to the Jaguars.

Signs along the cycle path through the zoo, have a notice the zoo has applied for a alcholol license, for events. Not sure if this just renewal of what they currently have or an extension to the hours, says up to half 12.

Could possibly be for Zoo Nights like at London Zoo which I know are really popular.

Business wise it would make sense, but I feel it may be just a renewal application as I can't really see the zoo going for a late license as London have done in the past with the problems they had and the not too positive replies on here for the said project.

There current zoo license or what ever sets these things, already allows them to open the zoo a lot later than then do, they just choose not too.

Could be for the renovated oakfield house, weddings, party's, corporate events, good money generators.

Yes for the later opening, but 9am in the morning? Whose drinking at 9am in the morning, unless its to cover opening time but then again whose drinking at 10am in the morning?

I have found that people who work nights sometimes like a pint early in the morning as this works now with 24 hour openings.

Have you ever visited Chester on a race day?

No I stay clear as its stupidly busy and can take an hour to get across the city.

Still does not excuse drinking that early.....no wonder we as a nation have this image around the world if people are drinking at that time in the morning.

One thing from the website the zoo is offering a range of new guided tours including before opening, garden and the big favourites tours.

Very cute - thanks for posting! Is the situation with the baby bear still as before, i.e. its in an enclosed area towards the back of the main enclosure and not really visible to the public? Whilst obviously the birth is absolutely brilliant news, I'm a bit concerned about how many people are commenting on Facebook saying they are going to see the cub in the next few days... the zoo really ought to be clearer on whether its actually possible to see it.

I think I suggested something like that when I completed their survey

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I was told last Saturday that they were not going to release news beyond the members magazine until they felt mum and cub were comfortable. As someone posted before, the moat is an issue and is something they will have to keep it clear of for now.

Surely they haven't posted a film of a bear cub on their website, without the animal being on show???
There will be a lot of disappointed visitors out there, or is this a taster for the school holidays which will be starting soon?
