........Who holds the record, London? Belle Vue even?

The record is held by London Zoo.

The popularity of the famous polar bear cub 'Brumas' (born 1949) resulted in London Zoo having an attendance of three million plus in 1950.

Regent's Park 1950 (following the birth of the first polar bear cub, 'Brumas') over 3 million!

Sorry our posts about 'Brumas' crossed.

Being pedantic, though, I must add that 'Brumas' was not the first polar bear cub but the first successful polar bear birth. (There were a number of polar bear cubs prior to 'Brumas' that did not survive.)

My two previous posts were made from my mobile phone whilst I was out this evening.

Having now returned home, I can provide some more accurate figures.

The ZSL Annual Report for 1950 gives the precise number of visitors for that year as 3,013,571.

Flower (1929) records that twenty polar bears were born at London Zoo between 1861 and 1922 although none survived. I am sure that there were other subsequent unsuccessful births, too, before ‘Brumas’ was born in 1949.

They may seem cute and innocent but in reality Orang's are crafty little devils, I think Chester needs to invest in some Orang proof locks ;);)

Given the fact that on the first escape the locks weren't the problem I think you are being unfair seeing as all the locks worked fine that time, and I for one will wait to see what the cause is this time,I have a feeling that the locks weren't the problem again this time.If it is the same as before then it will be easy enough to put right!!

I never meant it seriously in all honesty I was trying to be humorous, though it isn't a strong point of mine. I feel you got the wrong end of the stick Giraffe with what I meant.
