I assume that the birds will be back on show as soon as DEFRA relaxes the anti bird flu measures.

However as Nisha said a lot of birds are still visible, waterfowl in the old pelican aviary, owls, Cabot's tragopan, grey-winged blackbirds. and Europe on the Edge. flamingos are visible in the temporary enclosure. Penguins are on show.

When will ALL the walk around exhibits be fully open (birds that is) please as hope to visit shortly.

28th of Feb if the zoo wished, but the security measure need to be adhered too.

Most in the area have to keep them locked up till May as where in a "high risk" area.

So expect as Nisha put the current areas open to be open but Tsavo aviary still to be closed.

How visible are the grey-winged blackbirds though? I've yet to see them, or a photo of them.

Depends where they are in the aviary, at the moment I have only seen them in the back third of the aviary.

I've seen the female reasonably well around the first quarter of the aviary (given time) however the male seems to prefer the back quarter. Ive only seen the male move and not had a good view. Photography in that aviary is difficult at the best of times. Are they onshow in newquay yet?

The latest map by DEFRA indicating avian flu zones shows Chester is close to, but not actually in a zone anymore.

Correct, but there is still biosecurity they have to adhere too. So I doubt they will open the Tsavo aviary or let any birds out at risk.

Cases confirmed are not just contained to coasts, bodies of water or waterways which is what DEFRA have based their "high risk" area on!

I am in a high risk area and keep poultry so mine are still undercover. And I live within 10miles of the zoo.

The old cassowary enclosure has been refurbished and a pair of European Lynx will occupy this as soon as they complete quarantine .

May I ask what your source is,because what you have stated is very different from what I have heard and agreeded not to post before they arrive!
