This is really sad, I was lucky to meet him up close when I did the keeper for the day and he was a cheeky little baby. Very sorry for the primate team, must have been devastating.

It's depressing to reflect that of the 11 orangutans (12, I forgot Sarikei's baby) born at Chester since Jambi in 1998 five of them have died young (2 not at Chester).

I can't see the zoo giving an official opening date, not after the balls up they made with Islands, so like it or not, people accept June as the date.

Well just too muddy the waters I have been told July, by the volunteers that work in the area, but I will take that with a pinch of salt. So it will be August!

Muddy Waters? Wonderful! I saw him in concert once :)
Many Asiatic labyrinth fish like muddy waters too. I think Parosphromenus linkei may be one of them, but I read that Betta pallifina comes from clear streams.
As for the date - nobody knows: there will be a target date, but there are too many known unknowns, and perhaps some unknown unknowns, for anybody to be certain. And I seem to remember a ZooChatter disparaging information from some Chester volunteers recently :confused:

I never said I believed it in fact I didn't believe and told them so!!
 
Does anyone know where the tree kangaroo came from, I read that it is the same one from London zoo, but where did it originate? Looking at Zootierliste chester and london are documented as holding Goodfellow's tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus goodfellowi buergersi), can anyone confirm this??? Seeing the breeding group atr Belfast zoo was a real highlight of mine, is this the possible origins of the individual?? :)
