Chester Zoo Chester Zoo 2017

Today was my first ever visit to Chester. I had high expectations and I have to say that I really enjoyed the trip. Chester definetely ranks in my Top5. However, due to time reasons, I was not able to see all enclosures or animals. I will visit again for sure, but probably during a time, when there are less visitors.

I have two questions and maybe one of you is able to give me an answer.
- One big indoor enclosure in the Spirit of the Jaguar is empty. I guess the Sun Bears were kept here before they moved? Are there plans for a new species for this exhibit?
- I really like the antelope collection of the zoo. Unfortunately, I could not spot any of the Lesser Kudu. What species is kept next to the Grevys?
- Did Chester kept a species of seal in the near past?

Lesser kudu have left. Use to have bongos next to the zebra they moved to the old oryx exhibit.

The sun bears only left that enclosure a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure the zoo will have something planned for that enclosure.
The Lesser Kudu are no longer at the zoo, just the zoo haven't taken the signage down. The enclosure next to Grevy's is empty. It held the Bongos til recently.
Chester hasn't kept Seal in the recent past although they had Sea Lions recently in what is now the Giant Otter enclosure

The lesser kudu have gone to Magdeburg zoo. There are no plans to bring in a new species as a replacement.

well, thank you to MagpieGoose for posting this news in the news thread, then. :)

Yes - as I'm also 4+ hours away I only get to catch up on news when people post in here. Appreciate you taking the time to post what you do MagpieGoose :)

Yes Rob I know it's the same species (giving it the more recognised name and the one used by the zoo) just asking if it's the bird from the Tropical Realm upstairs.

3.3 were imported in 2012. A male was lost during the year leaving the zoo with 2.3.

1.1 died in 2013, and the stock on 1st January 2014 was 1.2

2 were born during 2014, neither of which survived.

0.1.1 were born in 2015, again none survived.

1.2.1 were born in 2016, one female was reared, and 1.3 were exported in July 2017.

They never did well at Chester.
