Not sure if it's been mentioned before but I saw some Pearl Gourami (Trichogaster leerii) in the Batagur tank in the Monsoon Forest. Not sure how long they've been in there but they were not signed.
Aha! I can pre-empt TLD :)
This very beautiful species is now known as Trichopodus leerrii.

Had a lovely visit to the zoo today.
  • The bear cub was showing very well at the front of the main paddock up in the trees with its Mom, there was a large croud taking photos but as my phone died I couldn't take any.
  • The crested partridge in the top of the tropical realm have chicks I counted at least 2.
  • The Victoria crowned pigeon are nesting in the tropical realm, also saw a random egg on the way up stairs not sure on what species it may be.
  • Filming was occurring on the dwarf mongoose meaning the tunnels are closed off.
  • The ants aren't on show due to maintenance no clue how they got them all.
  • No sign of the cotton tops due to work on the enclosure.
  • Binturongs were no where to be seen, but the large crate is still in the house.
I may post photos soon if they are good quality, and I will i a review of the day later.

The Savannah side of the Jaguar house is now occupied by Bernardo the Spectacled Bear. Seeing the three of them on Sunday (with a fence between him and Lima/cub) they didn't appear to be happy with each others presence so this is likely why he's been moved out for now..

Does this therefore mean that Lima and cub have full access to the paddock, even though there's a moat in the half formerly used by Bernardo? Or has the cub been deemed old enough to safely live here?

Not sure if they have that part of the paddock they where right by the path yesterday at the right side of the paddock showing really well!

This weekend (18-20 August) the zoo is offering adults the chance to be admitted for the same price as a child as part of the Play marketing campaign. Hence zoo is likely to be incredibly busy

Mum and the little girl(not confirmed) have access to the whole enclosure. When the cub does go to the water, which she(although not confirmed) did today, mum rushes over to pull it(her, but not confirmed) away. There were long spells without sightings today, but they showing all over the place. Great to watch.

I've come to think that I forgot to say the crowned cranes may have a new chick we saw them going inside and from my moms description it is very young and small, so I don't believe it's last years chick.
