Regarding the cheetahs sadly Safi passed away about 5-6 weeks ago, KT is still undergoing treatment for her digestion problems and is currently in the off show area behind the 3 boys , we did spot her waiting for her tea few weeks ago

The message I received from the zoo

Hi Fran - Thanks for getting in touch.

We are very sad to let you know that Safi the Northern cheetah passed away (2 June 2017) following recent health complications. Both the carnivore and vet teams worked tirelessly to help her, but despite their very best efforts, she didn’t make it.

Safi was born here at the zoo in 2013 to mum KT, so her death is particularly felt by the team that cared for her every day.

The Northern cheetah is critically endangered and so this is a devastating loss to the endangered species breeding programme that is working to create a safety-net population in zoos around the world.

Many thanks, CZ.

What a weird euphemistic reply (I blame Rolf Harris for popularising it).

Why not say what happened - did she die or was she euthanased for example?

I also saw Kinky Tail a few weeks ago, whilst on the monorail, she looked a lot healthier than previous so hopefully moving in the right direction

KT is both over represented and past breeding age. There will be no cheetah breeding at Chester for the moment.

That's sad to hear. I herd on The secret life of the zoo that a male tiger may arrive to Breed with Kasarna is this still the case. I also herd on The secret life of the zoo that a new male lion may arrive for breeding. Is this still the plan and if not they could exchange the Lionesses for a new one or possibly two. As far as I'm aware out of Asha and Asokas cub only Tejas parented a cub. Are his cubs or his parents still alive?

Those questions were answered on the previous page. No - there are no plans for any new Lions or Tigers to join Chester in the immediate future. If that changes then the zoo are sure to announce it - end of

Tejas is still alive. So is Asoka, Asha is believed to be but it isn't always easy to get information from foreign zoos

....and with that, goodbye ZooChat. Thanks for the memories

I forgot to mention in my Not A Review #252 that one of the Crowned Cranes seemed very agitated by the Wattled Cranes next door. Maybe some screening along the fence would let him/her relax.

does anyone know if the binturomg will be using the outside enclosures with the sun bears, also I heard a rumour that fossa will be included in the new Madagascarn development, does anyone know how true this is

The fossa is no rumour if you see the before posted plans a fossa enclosure is included.

Thanks for the info that’s sounds brilliant you don’t have any idea about the binturong do you ?
