The yellow-faced myna has been moved to an aviary on the top floor of Tropical Realm.

Willie is really starting to grow out his cheekpads, it won’t be long before he is repping a fully mature orangutan face.

Rhinos are still all in their same spots: Kitani and Hazina in the left side of the house, Zuri and Ike on the right, Kifaru in the lone house, Ema-Elsa and Gabe next door to the warthogs and Magadi, Embu and Malindi offshow.

The Indian rhinos and Eld’s deer haven’t been outside at all over the past couple of days.

Happened to be walking past the babirusa in Islands and noticed some ring-tailed lemurs in a cage at the back of Monsoon Forest. For the new Madagascar section...?

That's strange that the lemurs may be on the move already considering that construction hasn't even begun if I recall correctly.

Makes sense with such a large walk through exhibit they may want to bolster numbers a little while they have 19 as of the annual report this year, a few more will be good to make the enclosure feel fuller and livelyer.
 
Good point about the lemurs, also every zoo in the UK I have been to has a walk in lemur enclosure so it must be popular. Cotswold has a really good one. Too bad the walkthrough at Welsh Mountain Zoo was closed when I visited last and when I went to Whipsnade they were all inside :P

Knowing Chester, this could be the best in the country!

I understand there will be some breeding rotation, but none of the ring-tails currently on lemur island will be in the new walk-through exhibit.
 
Another thing of note; both binturong were being trained to enter the indoor viewing for the sun bears today. One is smaller with silvery legs, the other is larger and jet black.

Yeah I saw them both towards the end of the day. They didn’t have access to the main paddock however.
Seeing them outside made up for the spat I had just had with someone about the aye-ayes’ age and breeding situation....
 
Now I am on a laptop I can post properly...

We visited on Sunday 15th and the morning of Tuesday 17th October. We're very infrequent visitors so I'm not sure there is a lot I can update on that would not already be known but notable things from Tuesday were:

- the meerkats and black rhino were off show due to a fallen tree following the strong winds the night before. I believe it was the meerkat enclosure that was compromised in some way.

- the sun bears were displaying a lot of mating behaviour - bless him Toni was trying hard but Milli was having none of it.

- the sun bears and Jaguars were being given pumpkins (with rabbits in for the jags) and filmed for the TV show.

- maintenance work (weed clearing and poss more fallen trees) was being carried out in the water opposite the chimps.

- keeper told us that the binturong were mostly coming into the indoor sun bear enclosure at night and were having to learn how to use the ropes as this is something they are not familiar with.

...and I'm glad to say we got excellent views on both days of the baby andean bear - who was the main reason for our visit as we missed her / him back in July!
 
Bit of a mad question, but I'm finally catching up on all the series of Secret Life of the Zoo. Being a sci-fi fan, I couldn't help but notice Chester's male Anoa is called Teal'c. Is that the name Chester gave him? Or did he come from another zoo? (which clearly has a Stargate fan on staff) :D

I was delighted tbh! I got to see Goshi swimming as a result and hopefully got some good pictures of both the Jags and bears. In the few times we've been to Chester we have encountered camera crews in various locations and I have never found it an issue - they were not being instrusive or preventing people from viewing the animals. Why so grumpy?
