Because SLOTZ is an opportunity to educate - and nonsense like pumpkins (I presume there's some halloween link-up here) means an opportunity to do something more salient is lost.
I've known and loved Chester Zoo for decades (my membership number is very low) but I regret its current taste for gimmick over zoological education.
(My comment was also a little tongue-in-cheek playing to my reputation for disliking features such as (mock) passports, (mock) field camps and such like.)
I'll admit but it's a bit cliche the amount of collections that do it is crazy just show off some weird species instead of having the Most common and loved species eating things from pumpkins.

It's light entertainment, nothing educational about it and don't expect it was ever meant to be like that.
The whole point for Chester is probably not to educate but to get people to go to the zoo. Its a very clever marketing tactic, just like the dinos were. You might say why do they need it, Chester probably doesn't but free publicity is always good.
Its basically reality TV, and reality TV i can watch.

Great for the 1% of people like those on this forum but you are not going to get the other 99% wanting to go....by showing a spider.
Doesn't need to be a spider just some of the more let's say bizarre animals, orchid mantis, question mark cockroach i would animals that almost look as if they're wearing costumes that may sound tacky but to me it's better than pumpkins.
I don't "hate" either. I enjoy the programme but would like it to be a bit more informative and less hackneyed. I don't like trivialising the work that the zoo does and I think Halloween-theming and the like does exactly that.

I don't believe so. I think it will just be ring-tails and ruffed lemurs.
I do feel like it may just be a temporary enclosure and they might be moved elsewhere.
Please don't just have Ring Tailed and Ruffed lemur in the walk though (unless the Ruffed are Red or Belted Black & White) other wise it will be just the same as any other Lemur Walk through.

Given the native habitat of the species in question - reedbeds and islands within a freshwater environment - I would propose that in fact, it is the ideal location for the species at Chester at the present time, barring any custom-made exhibit which may or may not pop up in the fullness of time!

I think Red-bellied would be a good Walk-Through addition in Chester. I've seen them in a couple of Walk-throughs and they seem to be good. But I would like to se Blue-eyed Black lemurs in Chester (but not in a walk-through)
The zoo currently have 3:3 Bornean Orang-utans. The last Bornean Orangutan in the old house was retired male Tuan who moved out of the old ape house into a new house earlier this year.
