There are gaudy plastic animals everywhere (pound-shop pink plastic flamingos around the Fountain Shop), plastic flowers, stages, illuminated animals, floodlit paths (with deliberately blocked-off animal enclosures) and fairy lights. It's a Lantern's wonderland. Why theme-park??
Separate, although some of the Chilean chicks were mixed with the Caribbeans while they matured. Are they separated or mixed together?
Ah yes. But that is the east zoo!!There are gaudy plastic animals everywhere (pound-shop pink plastic flamingos around the Fountain Shop), plastic flowers, stages, illuminated animals, floodlit paths (with deliberately blocked-off animal enclosures) and fairy lights. It's a Lantern's wonderland.
Why does that make it any better (or worse)?Ah yes. But that is the east zoo!!
It doesn't, I was just correcting you.Why does that make it any better (or worse)?
Still the idea that it's just the east zoo doesn't warrant it being so theme park like. I honestly dont like zoos relying on stuff like that however I see why they do it in the modern era.It doesn't, I was just correcting you.
I've never understood why people needs these things to make their day worth while and enjoyable but I don't think us ZooChatters are the average guests.Still the idea that it's just the east zoo doesn't warrant it being so theme park like. Do they camouflage the construction works? Why does that make it any better (or worse)?
All zoos really need visitors at this time of year to maintain their cash flows - after all the animals still need to be fed and the staff still need to be paid. They can do this in several ways, for example by reducing fees (or even offering free entry) and hoping to make extra money from catering and gift shops. Chester have chosen illuminations while closing time is around dusk: I don't think that ZooChatters are the real targets, but I don't suppose our total annual spend at the zoo makes much of a dent in the elephant's food bill.I've never understood why people needs these things to make their day worth while and enjoyable but I don't think us ZooChatters are the average guests.
Oh heck, you're right. Clearly I still can't get my head around the map being upside down.It doesn't, I was just correcting you.

Which is another case in point. With so much of the zoo empty or having work undertaken, is it fair to still be charging visitors full (seasonal) prices? All zoos really need visitors at this time of year to maintain their cash flows - after all the animals still need to be fed and the staff still need to be paid. We're clearly not the target, and as much as I applaud the zoo for finding new income streams, when they start to impact the visibility of animals for general visitors and require mitigation measures to conserve their welfare, it's my opinion that things have gone too far. Initially the zoo's Christmas offering was outside, in the car park. It didn't matter to the people it attracted that they couldn't see animals and it kept disruption to a minimum. Now it feels like the animals play second best, and the "decorations" have become incredibly tacky.Chester have chosen illuminations while closing time is around dusk: I don't think that ZooChatters are the real targets, but I don't suppose our total annual spend at the zoo makes much of a dent in the elephant's food bill.
But Aung Bo is still growing and Maya loves her foodFor Chester only it might be, given the number of posts in Chester threads![]()
Change in topic. What buildings at Chester are due to be demolished?
Did not know about the aquarium. I am guessing it would be rebuilt, same with Tropical Realm.Cattle House, Giraffe House, Tropical House, not necessarily in that order. Aquarium in the long term.
