Rob's not wrong, the species has already been identified.

If you want it clarified, take a closer look at what's been posted OR wait until the enclosure is filled, as I'm sure it will be in the not too distant future.
Just wait for official confirmation when this becomes relevant for the general public.
For now, you can all speculate at will ..., there is no point(s) in it.

The new species at Chester will be housed in the old cheetah/cassowary enclosure . It will be put into the enclosure when the zoo feel that it is the time to do so. I don't think they even have them yet. The species has been named in this thread. When it/they arrive(s) I'm sure Zoochat will know about it.

The old cassowary/cheetah exhibit will have something in residence very soon, although it will be a different species than was planned. It is from the same family however.

Do you know when the species changed? Early this year I was told what they had planned, just wondering if it would still be the same or if had changed since then.

It has changed apparently and probably from what you were told, though I don't know when the plans changed, I suspect it's fairly recent

I remember this. If anyone wants to have some joy over that see previous images of the enclosure from a year or so ago.
I thought Shavingtonzoo was referring to a particular helicopter ( one tarzan wouldn't like reminding of!! Maybe I was wrong! But anyone much under 40 won't have a clue what I'm referring to!

Is it the Indian muntjac now listed on the Zootierliste current holding what will be going into the old cassowary exhibit?

No the muntjac will not be moving to there. The lynx import has hit problems, so another species has been obtained.

Given the fact it's been stated a few times that the new occupant will be a small cat, I somehow suspect that Indian Muntjac can safely be dismissed barring some drastic taxonomic reassessment...... :P

Visited the zoo today;
-There are now Pearl Gourami in the pool of the middle reptile enclosure in the Monsoon Forest. They have cleared out the end enclosure which was home to the Tree Skinks, Sun Skinks and Six-Lined Grass Lizards in the past, hopefully a new species in there in the future.
-Oakfield House has been closed up again with a sign on the outside explaining that they are "opening up the central staircase area, adding a garden room, replaicing floorboards and carpets and restoring some other beautiful features".
-The zoo also seem to now be down to 2 camels
-I did have a bit of a chuckle as the keeper has used the recent snow to make a snowman in the Tsavo aviary :p
