The zoo now have three spectacled bears for the first time. The left-hand area of the enclosure has been split midway back, with Franka occupying the rear area and Lima the front. The male is still on the right-hand half.
I saw the new female today, she's really small compared to the other two and has a lot of growing to do.
They might do one day. Why do I always read the title of this thread as Chester Zoo Aquarium 2014?

The female Spectacled Bear came from CERZA Lisieux.

Having just visited Chester for the first time in a long time, I'm curious to know whether there are plans for a new lion exhibit. Or will they simply refurb/expand it once the tigers move to Islands?
Not heard of any plans to alter the enclosure or build a new lion exhibit.

Well, the Lion and Tiger exhibits aren't that close to each other, so the Tigers' move won't do anything in terms of giving more options for their cousins.
I also doubt whether Chester really need to do anything with its Lions; the house is relatively modern, and the relatively spacious enclosure has bred lions by the bucket load for decades. And as the very first place in the UK to keep Lions behind chain-link fencing, not iron bars, it could be argued that it has considerable historic significance.
And Chester has got other, more pressing issues after Islands. I'd have thought that the Tropical House and the Giraffe House require attention first.
As has been discussed about, there are no official plans to make alterations to the lion facilities. As has been discussed, there are other exhibits which would take priority in terms of refurbishment; one must also consider whether the zoo would be willing to make a commitment (in the form of a new exhibit) to a species with which they have had very little success in the last 15 years.
