Just a few questions regarding the bird collection at Chester zoo
Have the following left the collection or are they off show at the moment,

Asian Glossy Starling, Blue Headed Macaw, Blue Throated Macaw, Brazilian Grey Breasted Conure, Cape Teal, Cinnamon Ground Dove, Crested Dove, Eider Duck, Emerald Dove, Ferruginous Duck, Golden Breasted Starling, Golden Conure, Greater Rhea, Green Wood Hoopoe, Hooded Merganser, Iris Glossy Starling, Lesser Sulpher Crested Cockatoo, Malayan Crestless Fireback, Mount Apo Lorikeet, Nicobar Pigeon, Purple Naped Lory, Red Crowned Amazon, Red Jungle Fowl, Red Tailed Amzon, Red Tailed Laughing Thrush, Red Vented Cockatoo, South African Duck, Taland Red & Blue Lory, Tufted Duck, Village Weaver, Violet Plantain Eater, White Collard Yuhina, White Crested Turaco, White Throated Orange Headed Ground Thrush, White Rumped Shama, Yellow Backed Chattering Lory.

Any information on these species would be gratefully received if you actually know their location within the collection that would be even better.

I do find the collection at the zoo very interesting and a joy to visit there aren’t many better collections within the UK unless they are specialised collections the very best of the collection I find is in the Tropical Realm and this is one reason I keep returning to the collection.

Yes thanks I do,but by the time you visit the chances are some of them will have moved,as some of those species were in different Aviarys last wednesday from my last visit 13 days before then,I could have you looking in the wrong place so I cannot see the point!

The Islands Project would give them a brilliant chasnce to bring many new species of birds in but I think they will just use the species they have.
It looks like they have quite a few of the parrots type birds of show is thier any reason for this.

I believe a lot were moved off show originally for short period, but hey found they bred with more success so have left them off show, well that was the case when I did my MMU conservation biology course at Chester zoo and we got a tour of the off show bird houses

Don't expect to many new species of birds to arrive for Islands, many of the species are already housed in the zoo,and will just move from their current home to Islands, thats not to say a few new species will not arrive but I don't think it will be as many as some people think will!

As for the parrots they were moved into the off-show parrot breeding centre, when the old parrot house closed, although now they have very good breeding results in it,for the first few years of the move they bred alot less than, they did in the old parrot house.
