As the forecast for our area for the next one is much lower, at only about 2/3 that of last Sunday's, I just had a look on-line for the Chester area.
Their's too, is around 20 mph less than last week - and for a much shorter period...

But looking like it will rain for most of the day...even Chester with a quite few places to shelter I still wouldn't want to go there with rain all day.

Oh dear - although the post was talking about wind, I would have thought that 'over-cast with light rain' and winds 20 mph less than last week, wouldn't at all rule out a trip to a zoo with so much under cover, and at which you could't see everything in a day anyway - especially for an Englishman! Fair weather visits only, must rule out an awful lot of the year!

Chester is quite fun to do in the rain - far fewer crowds, which means you get ROTRA and other bottlenecks to yourself!
 
It was raining all day on my last visit as can be seen by images in gallery and yes it's great to have much of the zoo to yourself.
 
I can cope with the rain it's the wind that will put the kybosh on things. Anyhow there's plenty of indoor areas Jaguar house, Black Rhino, RORA not to mention Elephant house.

I am spoilt living 5 minutes so can go when I want. And the forecast I saw was not "light rain", light rain wouldn't put me off. 20mph less winds.....still 50mph plus winds then. Still not lovely weather for darting between buildings.

TBH being fair skinned I avoid nice sunny days too ;)

I don't go all day anymore, either first thing or later on when its quieter. In fact I go alot in winter just not when the weather is horrible like in the middle of a storm.

TBH not sure why my comment saying I wouldn't fancy a trip to a zoo in the middle of a storm has caused such a reaction.
 
Does anyone have any information about the Giant Otters? Last summer they had babies (I saw two a few times and then heard that one had died and there was only one left) but it was never confirmed by the zoo. The side viewing area that’s undercover was blocked off at first but then by autumn wasn’t with a small sign saying they haven’t cleaned the water and glass due to there possibly being pups. But I went yesterday and saw that the glass and water had been cleaned, the inside enclosure looked quite bare of plants but it was blocked off with a big sign saying the otters may have pups. Does anyone know what the situation is with the giant otters and pups? Thanks!
 
Visited yesterday and noticed the the giant anteaters had been moved out of their enclosure. Does anyone have any news on this?
 
Does anyone know if the zoo still intends to use a strip of land from the elephant house, down the car park for the foothills and floodplains area of the 2030 vision, the rest of this vision is still keeping inline with current zoo development.

Riva Hi Way will be the clear favourite with the general public.

As you have identified, the general public tend to favour the simple and familiar. To save everyone (including themselves) time, Chester Zoo have shortlisted three names for people to vote on. Time will tell, but Riva (which is similar to River) will likely have the biggest appeal; and by a happy coincidence, it’s a decent name.
