Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion and Questions 2020

@Zia As a Chester member, I have contacted reciprocal zoos before visiting via Facebook messaging and have found that they are still honouring the scheme. They might just ask for your details and have you collect a ticket from the service kiosks before entering.

Thanks @littleRedPanda - it does seem to vary. We had to buy a ticket for Paignton if we wanted to arrive before 1pm but for Twycross we just emailed and were added to a list. I believe Marwell were not allowing reciprocal member visits at one point. I have messaged them on Facebook but just wondered if anyone had already queried it.

I have seen visitors at the kiosks and assume that's what they were doing. I've only been to Colchester and Twycross with mine, but donated the entry fee anyway so it wasn't taxed.

Just for reference - this was their reply:

We are only accepting members from other zoos during week days at the moment. There's no need to book, we just ask that you bring proof of a valid membership.
Unfortunately, we aren't able to do this at weekends or during half term holidays. Booking is essential for the weekends and during Oct half term (24 Oct - 1 Nov), as we can experience busy days and need to ensure that everyone is able to visit safely.

Does anyone know why there is a single ( unless there were more hiding?) cheetah, currently housed in a separate habitat to the others?

This is not news so thought I would drop it on here.
Will be visiting on the 24th hoping to spend most of the day around Islands.
Will be taking photographs of as many of the species on display as possible.
If anyone as anything else they would like a photograph of please let me know.

Hi bit of a longshot this one.
My daughter is at uni studying animal management and has-been given an assignment comparing 2 UK zoos enclosures.
She has chosen red pandas and Chester and whipsnade.
Ideally she would love to ask a few questions directly to the keepers about the care and enclosures, she has emailed both zoos with no reply( understandable with the amount they must get).
So just wondering if anyone has any advice for her to get the info she needs.
Thanks

I’m planning on visiting Chester Zoo in a couple of weeks and I’m a member of Twycross Zoo so get one free entry per year to Chester. However I visited Chester at the beginning of the year close to when my Twycross membership was due to be renewed and I cannot remember whether I entered Chester on last years membership or this years. Is there a way Chester can check whether I have used the free entry already? I don’t want to travel all the way and not be able to get in as I’ve used the membership entry and haven’t pre booked a slot for normal entry, particularly at the moment when capacity is limited.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Yeah I’m planning on going on a weekday so it should be fine to use my Twycross membership. I’m just not sure if I have already used the free Chester visit earlier this year or if that was on my Twycross membership from last year and if there was a way for Chester to check so if I have already used it I can just book a normal paid ticket.

It was great to be back in Monsoon Forest today. As reported elsewhere, the route has been reversed: this is seemingly to make space for people to queue without this backing up into the Sun Bear indoor area. A word of warning though to anyone planning on visiting in the next couple of days or over the next couple of weekends - be prepared to queue for up to an hour to get in (i.e. it may be worth going first thing).
