Any ideas why there is one cheetah, currently housed separately, in another area of the zoo to the others? So good to be back there this week :)
I believe she’s an elderly female, the other two are elderly male brothers who live together in the very front enclosure and the elderly female lives in one of the back enclosures.

Are you talking about the one in the old bush dog enclosure?

The sites booking page has changed and I can't see where I can cancel a booking. I no longer need this Tuesday as I am going tomorrow. Anyone else seen the cancel option?

I noticed today that zootierliste mentions that Chester recently imported small Indian mongoose (Herpestes auropunctatus); does anyone know what the plans are for this species - could it possibly go on show alongside the lions?

I remember there was something about mixing the mongoose with lions in the original plans but I don't think anything came of it. Could it still happen in the future? Maybe.

I don’t think it was mixing, rather rotating use of the indoor enclosure.

And to complete the family album here is an actual photo of mother Mandy herself as an infant, taken in the 70´s in Ness, Neston (Wirral) where we lived at the time. I can´t be sure of the year but Mandy is still in her nappies so quite young. And clearly she was not an admirer of my Aunt, who was getting a bit close for comfort! My father Eric Grimshaw worked at Chester while founder George Mottershead was still alive, later working with Curator Bill Timmis for around 15 years (Bill came from Taronga Park Zoo I believe) and in that time my mother and father often ran Chester´s hand rearing programs - given we had a lot of space on the farm where we lived. Bill Timmis and my father later moved on to work together at the collection of George Lascelles at Harewood House in Yorkshire. I hope you enjoy the photo memory of Mandy.

Please can any one who watched this evening's AGM let me know what was said about the animals? I got as far as the anouncement about sifakas , then something arriving for grasslands which I missed the name of, the vultures perhaps? That was when my PC decided to freeze. By the time I had re-connected it was too late.

Looking on zootierliste, Chester now seems to hold Blesbok. Has anyone seen these on a recent visit or can confirm where they are housed?

CHester Zoo's schedule for a birthday celebration on facebook, includes a "sneak peak at something new!"
I wonder what it is.

I saw that. I'm forcing myself to expect it to be something we actually already know about - but we'll see!

Well, an Aye-Aye birth would be top of my list. (Or Tree Kangaroo ...)

But this being 2021 a new playground or something animatronic may be lurking . . .

:D

I don't think Chester would do that to us, a playground isn't very exciting to see on a live stream. Hopefully its something good, although to be honest after the sifakas I'd be happy if it was a new bench!

An elephant, a Chilean flamingo, a Rothschild's giraffe and a Parson's chameleon.
Not a lot of choices for your 90th Birthday.

Or could they be playing at a new animal citizen into the world?

It won't be an elephant. Only one breeding female left in the herd and she gave birth in February 2020 so that will be a no go. Potentially a black rhino calf if Magadi was successful before he left ( he successfully mated Ema Elsa) probably something a lot smaller or a new species arriving
