Does anyone have a copy of the Zoo Days, series on DVD they would be happy to sell it to me? Zoo Days was filmed at Colchester and Chester Zoos. I have been looking for the DVDs for ages. I purchased one of the Colchester DVDs,but I would like to buy Zoo Days Chester.

I may be in Chester again this week (unexpected offers of zoo trips are awesome! :p) and was wondering if the bat walkthrough has reopened yet?

When I visited around a week ago the bat walkthrough wasn't open despite pretty much everything else being open.

Good morning all, I'm visiting Chester next month, how many times would I expect to make it around in a full day? I would usually be able to get around Whipsnade 3 or 4 times in the day quite comfortably. Thanks

That's not hard, if you are driving ;)
Chester is usually significantly busier than Whipsnade and there may be queues at some exhibits, plus there are many more small mammals, birds, reptiles etc so you will probably stop far more often. I think that @AthleticBinturong is basically correct, but if you are there all day, you should have time to revisit a few exhibits.

I'd say once also plus some time for revisits. There is a lot less to see exhibit-wise at Whipsnade than Chester.

I've just watched The Secret Life of the Zoo and wondered what the recent situation with the Giant Otters was? I remember seeing reference on here to 1 or 2 pups in 2019 which, based on the other content of this series so far, I was guessing was when this was filmed. Does anyone know if the pups all survived? Or has there been a more recent litter?

I was told one thing by a volunteer, but was 'corrected' by someone here when I posted my info. I have since been informed that the parents of the one surviving pup moved to France, but there was a recent arrival to partner the surviving pup at Chester.

From what I understand, it was the mother (Icana) and the surviving pup - also female - who were moved on to France, with the male Tarubu staying to be partnered with the female from Singapore.

Thanks littleRedPanda and Indlovu - much appreciated! So does anyone know how the other pups died? Such a shame as they seemed to be doing so well, but one survivor is still a valuable contribution to the captive population.

I'm planning on visiting Chester Zoo early next year, the last time I went was in Summer 2010, for those who've been recently is the pedestrian entrance on the opposite side of the zoo from the main entrance still there? Or has it been closed? Because I can't see anything where it once was marked on the current map.

It's been closed some time unfortunately - the main entrance is the only public entrance now.

Not only has it closed, but the zoo is in the process of closing much of the corner of the zoo which it led into, with a number of exhibits you will recall from your last visit now out-of-bounds.

The only things I really remember from that section are a mongoose enclosure and a row of owl enclosures, but looking at the current map it looks like those aren't there now. How much of that area is closing?

The round enclosure where you saw the mongooses, the two kangaroo paddocks and the two cat enclosures at the end of the road are closed. The owl acviaries are still there , but now house mainly pheasants. They are sited well away from the closed area. The last plans I know of for that site is that it will become a catering stores area, it has road access at each end.

Tonight's episode has confused matters even more as it was explained that two pups had died, but there were still two alive at the end of the story... presumably another one passed away either after filming was completed for that series, or maybe they just decided they'd rather have a happy ending!

Also another interesting part was on Rothschild giraffe Dagmer. She seemed to be loosing weight which they seem to have sorted out but I seemed to understand that she will be given a rest from breeding for a while although I don't think she's been retired just rested I think.

Born in 2006 if I'm correct?

It’ll be interesting to see how C4 play catch-up with SLOTZ. I imagine there’s plenty of stories that occurred in the last 18 months (Thi’s demise for example) but can’t see how a film crew would’ve been allowed into the zoo during lockdown.

Then again, it worked for Longleat…

I don't unfortunately, but you would be able to find many of the episodes on YouTube on a channel called Real Wild if you're out of luck.
