I'm planning on visiting the zoo very soon and I'm aware that some of the indoor areas are closed as a result of a local report of avian influenza, as stated by the website. I was just wondering if there are any other indoor areas currently closed. The website states that the Latin America Wetland aviary, Tropical Realm and Monsoon Forest (excluding Tripa Forest Research Station) are all closed. Is this all of the current indoor closures at the zoo? Thanks in advance.

I know this is the 2021 thread but I didn't want to ask this in the news thread. Other indoor areas are open. The two walkthrough aviaries on Islands are closed. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Visited yesterday and noticed there is a sign outside the lion enclosure saying one of the lions is currently undergoing veterinary care.

Also, the aardvark indoor viewing has been blocked off.

When I was there yesterday all 3 lions where out & about so hopefully they're all well enough

Interesting, I had noticed when I went past that Iblis was the only one inside (as he also was on my last visit) so I assumed maybe it was something to do with him but really I don't think there is much of a way to tell unless the zoo outright says.

Mmm that is interesting. The last 3 weeks I've seen him doing his laps around the parameter. It was very windy & rainy at points yesterday, perhaps he just wanted to stay dry! I hope he's OK, but as you say, let's keep our eyes our for what the zoo says.

Which Asiatics are there exactly (ancestry dob et cetera). Iblis is not the original one of the first breeding group?

I'm not sure of their exact details, but it's Iblis who I believe is around 14 years old, and two lionesses, Kumari & Kiburi who came to the zoo around 10 years ago.

So, no hope there! What next .... is the Asiatic lion program EEP dead?

As far as I know, all breeding attempts of Chester's current lions have failed...

In general, I would not expect any big cat births at Chester for a while ;)

Today I only spent about 10 minutes with the lions. The two females were outside lying on the big rock to the left of the enclosure. Iblis was also outside. He was walking around near the back of the enclosure while I was there.

On visiting on Sunday it struck me that there were very few Penguins visible. Less than 10. I know this isn't new news, and I understand the underlying cause, but it was still a shock to see that big enclosure so empty. A huge shame.

Elsewhere, the zoo was busy with visitors but everything seemed to be showing well.

I was there on the 29th and there was a lot more than 10, probably around 16 at least from my photos.

Does anyone know why the capuchin lion tailed macaques and mandrills have switched exhibits

I don't know, but it looks to me like they've simply rearranged to have the largest species in the largest enclosure, and vice versa. (When the house opened the big island was for the Sulawesi Macaques as there were so many more of them thanin the other groups, but with them now in Islands the Mandrills seem the natural heirs to that enclosure)

Ok because I would have thought that the capuchins would move back to the enclosure they were in which was the end enclosure where the sulawesi macaques were prior to their move to islands in 2015 and when they moved back their due to their original enclosure due to the fire does anyone know where the capuchins went

They went off show as far as I'm aware.
