Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion and Questions 2022

I mean I would quite like to see tuan become a father again because none of his offspring have survived in his time at Chester he sired two babies with sarieki and leia in 2009

Sarieki had a male iznee who died in 2017 at Chester
And leia had a female Latifah who died in 2014 also at Chester

He has several children and grandchildren from his time at Antwerp, so is well-represented within the European population - including Blackpool's new male, Kawan, who is Tuan's grandson.

Oh I meant at Chester none of his offspring have survived because had Latifah not have died chester could of kept her as a breeder along with sarieki and leia ad contributing towards her species

Tuan's well represented throughout the region so it's unlikely he'll be used for future breeding again. He could very well be paired up with Martha, who's post reproductive, but I imagine they'd rather have her remain with her daughters and grandchildren.

Could someone tell me if I’m correct in thinking
That the ringtail red bellied red ruffed crowned and white belted lemur live in the walkthrough and then the black , gentle lemurs live near the cheetahs and another group of ringtail live on the island

We’re do his children live

His offspring from Antwerp are probably widespread across or widespread in or out of Europe but the two offspring he sired at Chester passed away in 2014 and 2017

And with the Lemurs
Lemur walkthrough

Does anyone know what will happen to the old lesser kudu paddock next door to the roan antelope because it has been empty since the kudu left around 5 years ago , July 2017 was when they left the zoo could their old exhibit become home to another ungulate or will it just be made as an extension to the roan's enclosure because as they are technically onshow could the blesbok move to that enclosure while grasslands is getting built and a new ungulate could move to where the blesbok are now maybe an Asian ungulate like pere david deer or nilgai or fat chance maybe gaur I'm only saying an Asian ungulate because of the surrounding area

Unless the zoo need it for urgent housing (unlikely now the new offshow complex is in place), I wouldn't expect anything to happen with that paddock before building for Grasslands starts.

I visited today and was just wondering two things...

- What is being built by the capybara paddock? Does anyone have any ideas?

- Have the roseate spoonbills left the collection? Neither time I have visited in the past two months were they in the Latin American Wetland aviary - however, they're still mentioned on the website and Zooterliste. Have they left the collection or are they just offshow for some reason? If it's the former, then it's a real shame.

Whereabouts near the capybara paddock is their building work? Must be new.

I also have never seen the spoonbills, I'm not sure they were ever actually in the aviary in the first place! :p

The building work being referred to is more accurately in and around the Miniature Monkeys area.

I did see them once or twice, but I am reliably informed they have been sent to another collection now.

Sorry - any idea what it's for?

Oh - that's a shame (especially since, according to Zooterliste, only what, two, other collections in the UK had them). Any reason given?

Ah makes more sense now, I do remember seeing that.

A shame! Interesting though, they seemed to be a large part of the branding for it... I wonder what went wrong?

Referring to Bornean orangutans, how many have been born here? I know they had Iznee & Latifah both born in 2009 but believe both have sadly died since. Leia had a baby in October 2020 but I've no idea what the sex is and no name was announced that I'm aware of(I may be wrong) how many have each female had?

I wasn’t aware he died! It’s a great shame if he did.

He was alive as of 2017, when his younger brother, Tombol was born.

Maybe I am mistaken, I could have sworn I'd read it somewhere but I've just googled and I can't find anything.

Edit: further back on this thread, Iznee is mentioned a couple of times, passed away April 2017.
