Oooh, a new Giraffe calf? Who's the mother/father?
They've just been born so no public announcement yet, it will come soon enough I imagine.

I'm hoping it to be kanzi millie or tula as 2 of them have never bred and tula hasn't had a calf since December 2016 but I wouldn't mind if it was orla
If by the ROTRA you mean where the Bornean Orangutans are, it was open when I visited on Friday around 3pm. Not sure why it would have been closed, although I could only see two of the orangutans. What time did you visit? I didn't get chance to go back round for the second time.

Has been confirmed on facebook that the mum of the new giraffe calf is Orla
The new calf is a...... male!!
he's been called Stanley after a place in Africa

Here is all the calves as far as I'm aware he has sired at Chester please correct me if I'm wrong
2014 : Zahra with Aoife an old female at Chester who died in 2015 at Chester for anyone who doesn't know I belive Zahra went to another collection during 2016/ 17 I belive
2015: sanyu with dagmar. Sanyu left the collection in early 2020
2015: kidepo with orla . Kidepo left in 2017 for a zoo in France
2016: murchsison with tula . Murchsison left the collection in early 2020 with sanyu.
2017: Narus with orla . Narus left in 2018 to a zoo in the Netherlands after being disruptive to the rest of the herd and to the keepers
2017: DNS with dagmar this calf only lasted 2 days because it struggled to feed from mum
2019 : mburo with dagmar
2019 : mojo/karamoja with orla
2021 : Albert with orla
2022 : Stanley with orla
So over his 9 years at Chester meru has sired 7 boys 2 girls and one unsexed which didn't survive

Does anyone know if the narrow striped mongoose will be onshow anytime soon has they have been in the zoo for 10 years now and they haven't been onshow at all since they arrived I do occasionally see glimpses of them from their offshow enclosures by the bats
can anyone tell me the current chimps parents / / grandparents ect names from as far back as possible so I can try make a family tree

@hari Jones do you know which Zoos Zahra,Sanyu,Kidepo,Muchinson,Narus,Mburo are Karamoja are at now? You said which country’s some of Merus’s Calfs are in. Could you please be more specific about list any Calfs they’ve had.

I'm afraid I don't know what collections the majority of them I only know from slotz and the keepers that they have left however mburo and mojo are still there

Ztl is shown as listing red crested turaco in the collection can anyone confirm if this is true

I’ve personally only seen White Crested and they were in Tropical Realm next to the Tarictic Hornbill (other Hornbill were in exhibit this week, as some maintenance work was being done near their normal exhibit) and then there was a pair in the aviary with the Stork and Crane which had a pair of chicks in the nest (nearly ready to fledge).
Not sure where Red Crested are if they have any, as have only seen the two sets of White Crested myself.

The turacos I've seen in chester were the violet turacos who left in 2020
Schalow's turaco in the lower aviaries of tropical Realm and I think before that I saw them in the rainbow aviaries before they got rebuilt
Fischers turaco in the tsavo aviary they left in 2018
And white crested turacos in tropical Realm and the old pelican aviary
I don't recall ever seeing red crested turacos at Chester though I known they've Been kept there in the past according to ztl

On my visit (December 2021), there were Schalow's Turaco in the African Wetlands Aviary, although I don't recall seeing any White-cresteds there (ZTL states that Chester's White-cresteds departed in 2020).
