Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion and Questions 2022

Does anyone know if kyra the sun bear is still in the zoo or has she moved to paradise wildlife park yet
I imagine Kyra is still at Chester for now as I don't think Sun Bear Heights is quite finished yet, but I'm sure she will move not long after it is eventually completed, but no dates have been mentioned yet. Has anyone seen Kyra at Chester recently?

I saw a picture of her yesterday

Just to clarify the position on Euplerids.

Narrow-striped Boky-Boky are housed in the Tropical Realm in part of the old gorilla dens.

Grandidier's Vontisora are in the enclosure behind the bat cave.

I still call them mongooses, I grew up with that name, I used the modern names in case TLD reads this. :p
Does anyone know the animals that have moved offshow/already there or to different enclosures due to grasslands

The cranes moved offshow in June or July

Blesbok moved offshow in September

Grevy's Zebra and Roan Antelope moved offshow in October

I think that is all

Which Cranes?

I think there is a Grey Crowned Crane in the aviary with the Black Stork, White Faced Whistling Ducks and the Turaco's, but can never remember the name of that aviary.

Wattled and either grey crowned or black crowned
Also speaking off animals moving offshow do the separate sections (primates carnivores) have seperate offshow areas not including the africa section as that is probably it’s own section

The offshow complex is pretty large and has multiple enclosures so I assume there is space to facilitate all sorts of animals.

Collar is the name given to the offshow zoo, so to speak.

There are a number of aviaries over there, as well as paddocks and enclosures.

A lot of the animals over there are either awaiting exhibit builds, or are surplus animals looking to move on to other collections.

Reptile section have pods there, with some stock in quarantine, but they also have an offshow area upstairs in the Tropical Realm.

There are a number of offshow aviaries around the zoo, but there are two large sections over on collar as well.

I don't think there is anything over at Collar for carnivores, but there is certainly hoofstock, birds, and reptiles.

Done 4 of the 9 Keeper for a day experiences and have another booked this year. Will do the rest next year. They are definitely worth the money but very different to a lot of zoos experiences, these aren't feed meet and greets, These are experiences where you actually learn a lot about animal behaviour and the species themselves and you work with the whole keeper team.

Re heart of Africa, does anyone know what they are considering keeping in the Ungulate house, next to the bachelor giraffe House, it is designed to have 4 separate enclosures. Looks like it till be able to give the occupants access to either the main area or the bachelor group enclosure

I would speculate the blesbok. They are not mentioned in the plans for the main ungulate house, so I imagine they may be housed separately here.

Parrot breeding centre is off show, and part of the Experiences you sign a disclaimer not to take photos and disclose animals you meet off show. Therefore, I doubt anyone would breach that confidentiality. I for one wont.
