The current alpha male is Dylan and the chimp group hasn't had a dominant female since Cleo died in 2013 however in series 4 and 10 of secret life of the zoo it showed that there was a power struggle between 2 females , Alice and vila

I’m not an expert on chimpanzees but is it unusual to go without an alpha female for so long and have the same alpha male for so long?

also the more recent baby chimps, other than zeezee who are the other mother(s)

Unfortunately it looks like rain is forecast for the day I'm planning my next visit to Chester, hopefully this shouldn't be too much of a problem because many of the zoo's exhibits have good indoor viewing and I'll mostly be focusing on buildings like the aquarium, tropical realm, butterflies and fruit bats, but I've never been in the Islands area before so I'm not sure what to expect. What is the indoor viewing like for the enclosures in Islands? Can you still get a good view of most of the animals on a rainy day?

Also, unrelated, but does anyone happen to know what breed the goats next to the lion enclosure are? The signage just says "Domestic Goat".

Chester is still excellent in the rain. In Islands, there is sheltered viewing for the tree kangaroos, the Malayan tapirs and the sun bears (plus the binturongs, if they leave their dens) and of course the Monsoon Forest is completely under cover - although it can get crowded, so go early or late if the zoo is busy. The boats on the Lazy River trip have some covering, but you may not see many animals from them if it is raining.
A fortnight ago,I looked at the goats with 2 friends from ZooChat, but none of us knew what breed they are.

Thank you very much. Do the tigers have decent indoor or sheltered viewing as well? I'm not getting my hopes up too high for spotting the cubs, but I'll be satisfied if I can see at least one tiger.

I'm afraid there is no indoor viewing for the tigers. You might be lucky enough to see them from the windows in the tunnel between the two sections of their outdoor enclosure or even from the boat, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Anyone have a picture of the goats maybe able to id

I was thinking about doing that on my next visit. I am confused as sometimes they look like Nubian goats, sometimes Toggenberg Goats and sometimes something completely different. Unless my brain is playing tricks on me.

I think it will have to be considered that maybe they aren't pure bred, and hence 'Domestic Goat' is the only accurate descriptor...

Though I would concur they look closest to Nubians of the breeds I am familiar with.

I’m not a goat expert at all, but i also thought they looked like Nubian Goats

Off there tomorrow I haven't been since 2016? Hopefully I get to see new things tomorrow what should I get to first obviously the tiger cubs but anything else I should head for?
