Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion and questions 2023

Good evening Zoochatters, I was wondering if anyone here has had any success in viewing either/both of the unusual small carnivores (Indian mongoose/Grandidier's vontsira) kept behind the scenes at Chester, and how I might go about trying to get access? I tried a few years back for the vontsira but was denied. Thanks!

You're more likely to get access to the grandidiers at Bede's if that helps :)

At my Komodo dragon experience I can confirm that the zoo has baby's that were born in April and are currently backstage but the keepers want to renovate the mountain chicken frog enclosure to house the baby’s in. Exciting news for Chester!

I've already tried them and was denied as well. If I miss them at Magdeburg in a couple of weeks, I'm not gonna be happy.

Does the zoo still keep pudu? It so where are they located at the zoo?

The Pudu enclosure is adjacent to the north side of the Jaguar house. The only place you can view them is if you go inside the Jaguar coffee house, there is a window just to the side of the counter.

To be honest I probably haven't seen the pudu for around 4 years I hope the zoo move them somewhere that is easier for people to view them from options could be
Move them to the lowland tapir paddock or move them to the capybara and anteater enclosure

Does anyone know if or when secret life of the zoo will return for another series considering they didn't release a series last year as they normally come out once or twice a year does anyone know if they are still filming and it also seems most of the episodes aside from the compilation episodes seem to have been removed from all 4

From where did you get this information and if so why is it not returning because if it doesn't return I'd be gutted

Definitely not returning. Most of the keepers who were part of the series, have either retired or moved on. Only 3/4 remain.
The zoo also couldn't agree stuff with the production team, about formats and so on. The people behind the program have now moved on to other ventures including a series which is being filmed at Knowsley. There are no plans to bring back SLOTZ.

Sad news but I still dont get why most of the episodes have been taken off all 4 and left just the compilation series
And at least series 1 of zoo days is available to watch on youtube

I have seen both the Narrow Striped Mongoose / Bokiboky and the Grandidiers Vontsira at Chester Zoo.
I saw the former on the Twilight Keeper For A Day experience, and the later as part of the Carnivore Keeper For A Day Program. It is my understanding that the former are now part of the Carnivore team as well.
I did not know that Chester held the Small Indian Mongoose? If they do, I have not seen these on any of the sections at Chester, so do not know where they are.

The Narrow-Striped and Grandidiers are completely off show to the public and when I saw them as part of the keeper experiences, we fed them and got to see them offshow. I was allowed to take photos, but was told they could not be used for anything other than personal use. At the time of visiting, there was 2.2 Grandidiers and 2.2 Bokiboky.

Any confirmation on a timeframe for elephant Aung Bo's departure or is it still work in progress?
