I think before covid they had plans to expand into the car park. Not sure what the current plans are however.Has Chester ever published snytjing about their future plans for the elephants? The bull is way too small and the large paddock Isn’t that large either. The house is good but the outdoor area is in no way fit for the future.
I'll be at the zoo again a few times over the next few weeks so I'll have to keep an eye out.Oustalet's chameleon now on display in the tropical realm, mixed with radiated tortoises in their small hut/house
As far as I know the elephant paddock is to be extended northwards into the car park area. This will be for the cows.
The bull paddock will then be the existing elephant area.
This was a few years ago and plans may change over time.
A previous plan was to extend the elephant enclosure southwards and allow them to mix with the Indian Rhinos.
Wouldn't the large area close to the lions be a more suitable place for the elephants; there is ample room to make a large exhibit and reduce any possible complaints. This could then become the asian foothills zone. Just a thought. I bet the zoo will come out with something totally different.Always thought using some land over the road behind the jaguar House and next to the holding zoo, would creat a massive area for a mixed species paddock, Asian Elephants, the one horned rhino and deer, plus a large bull area. First for the UK I presume and would keep some of the complaints away about holding elephants in zoos.

How much of the land in that area does the zoo actually own? That's is also an idea and yes mine is just my opinion and the zoo will have something completely different in mind.
I was thinking a very large area in blue, compared to the area near the lions in redView attachment 685513
It owns all that land plus most of the land down to the motorway. It bought another farm approximately 12 months ago. I think the idea is to stop house building close to the zoo.How much of the land in that area does the zoo actually own?
Apologies if I've missed this but does anyone know where the snow leopards are coming from?
If your referring to Maya the elephant - no, she hasn't.Did Maya ever breed at Chester?
How many acres of land is that in total? That's is also an idea and yes mine is just my opinion and the zoo will have something completely different in mind.

The North of England Zoological Society owns 400 acres of land, of which 128 is the current size of Chester Zoo. The area enclosed in blue in jde7582's post is not due for development under the current Masterplan which goes up to 2030.
