The first calf was born on 10th September 1967 and was named Reginald, for Reginald Greed the Director of Bristol Zoo, where the first U.K. breeding of black rhino occurred. This was Roger, the father of Reginald. Co-incidentally Regionald Greed's birthday was 10th September.

I remember as a boy being taken to see 'Roger' at Bristol Zoo with his mother 'Stephanie', when he was about five days old and not yet on show to the public. Very exciting for me..

I have a visit booked in for next week and wondered what new species have been put on display since last April? Obviously, the snow leopards are the most recent large arrival but I am more so interested in the smaller species that I haven't yet seen.

Thanks :)

As mentioned in the Asian Elephant population thread, both Anjan and Aung Bo will soon leave Chester.

Aung Bo is heading to Dublin, whereas Anjan's designated facility is still unknown. Anjan will depart first followed by Aung Bo.
