Chester Zoo Chester Zoo discussion and questions 2025

Sorry if these questions have been asked already:
Where is the giraffe bachelor heard?
How many chimpanzees are currently at Chester. What births have they had recently and which females are the mothers? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone seen the older male Bornean orangutan, Tuan, within the past 12 months?
I take it he does still reside at Chester Zoo?
Should still be at Chester - he apparently spends more time off display these days (perhaps due to his age).

The giraffe bachelor herd is just behind the main herd. However the bachelor herd is only viewable from the overnight lodges.

Chester should currently have 20 chimps. The most recent births were; 0.1 Toyah (2020), 1.0 Jeff (2022), 1.0 Unknown (2023).

But, according to the 2024 annual report, there should only be 18 chimpanzees in Chester, right?

Yes, 5 male chimpanzees and 13 female chimpanzees.
Interesting five males were mentioned then, I was under the impression they had six:
Nicky, Dylan, Eric, Carlos, Jeff and the youngest male.

So obviously passed within the last year or so. It also seems another female has passed from the following list: Rosie, Farthing, Mandy, Sarah, Sally, Layla, Alice, ZeeZee, Chrissie, Patti, Vila, Stevie, Alice and Toyah.

The group would also at least now number 19 following the birth of an infant to Chrissie a few months ago.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but does anyone know which unsigned frog shares a terrarium with a lizard species near the Beolens Python in the Red Ape house?

A photo would be good, although I think someone already mentioned it could be Yellow-spotted Climbing Tree Toad

Looking at photos that seems plausible. Unfortunately the individual I saw moved to an unhelpful position before I could take a photo.

A question I was wondering if anyone could help with a answer please.
Has Chester ever kept Arachnid (spiders) on or off show please?

There is a Singapore Blue (I believe) Tarantula on show in Monsoon Forest. Montserrat Tarantulas have been on show in the past. There is a Mexican Red-knee in the Jaguar house.

Lots Adrian. Red-kneed Tarantula in Jaguars and Singappore Blue Tarantula in Monsoon are currently on show.

What’s the story behind the Red Velvet Mites?

Interesting five males were mentioned then, I was under the impression they had six:

Seems Like Toyah may have passed, I’ve seen posts of her being missing and questions regarding her whereabouts.

Well, the annual report was from 2024 and I found this video from six months ago, so I don't believe Toyah's the female in question.

In saying that, it's possible she's passed away too recently (if there's been questions about her). Although I hope she's okay.

I was there today and her name wasn't on the name board

Thanks for that; that seemingly confirms it sadly. Chester should have seventeen chimps then currently.

Does anyone know whether Jeff or the male infant born in 2023 are still around? It appears one of those two passed prior to last year.
I saw Jeff running around at the end of July loving life. I don’t know who may be missing sadly as I can only identify a few individuals.
