Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion, Speculation & Questions 2018

Sorry I do not have any details.

Also someone on Facebook thought she saw aye-aye on Lemur Island. I think she has mistakenly identified black lemur, a pair of which arrived early this year.
That would be me, I didn't say I thought I saw an aye aye on lemur island, I said if i didn't know better I'd have swore it was an aye aye it seemed the easiest way to describe what I'd seen

I think they are all open now, still can't see why they did not use disinfectant mats like other collections.

Does anyone know if the zoo still only has 0.1 Red Panda, or if Jung has been replaced yet? I've tried to find out from the zoo before but they don't respond.

I was under the impression that they are back to 1:1 but I can’t confirm this for definite as I have personally only seen Nima when I’ve been there. I am sure somebody here will know for certain, however.

How are the proposed off show aviaries and paddocks and all that going? (opposite the road from RotRA)

The application is still awaiting a decision as jde7528 posted above.

Residents of Badgers Walk, the small hosing area north of the zoo are making objections, mainly concerns about the gates and fenceline being visible and speeding traffic, the latter not really anything to do with the zoo.

Emails and facebook warning of the attendance being at max capacity tomorrow, so advising people to go another day if not already booked. Has this happened before?

I haven’t seen anything like this before, but I can just imagine how horrendous it would be. I saw a comment saying that today almost all of the car parking spaces were full, including on the two fields.

I'm getting really annoyed with Secret Life of the Zoo - after the big drama with the two pregnant Sumatran Orangutans and Emma taking Subis' baby, last night's episode showed Emma having given birth with no mention at all of the earlier baby! I know what happened, and the zoo has mentioned it on Twitter, but it seems disrespectful to regular viewers to just not follow up the story like this. I find it really strange.

This tends to be how the Channel 4 documentaries work (see also One Born Every Minute, Educating..., etc.). Each episode works as a standalone without assuming the viewer has watched anyone of the previous episodes. I guess, from that point of view, it would have taken too long to explain what happened with Subis’ baby again.

I posted it in spoiler tags in another thread, but as the TV show doesn't seem to want to tell the full story, I may as well summarise it...

To recap, Subis & Emma were both pregnant at the same time. One morning keepers found Emma with a baby. As Subis appeared to be in labour and was showing signs of discomfort, she was examined by vets and it was discovered that Emma was still pregnant, and that she had taken Subis' baby. Sadly the infant passed away before Emma gave birth herself - which was not covered by the programme; instead they just stated that Emma had her baby.

I felt that they should have mentioned that Subis's baby died when they showed the story originally. But at least on last night's episode we found out what's wrong with Emma's son, Tripa - hypothyroidism, which is treatable.

When's the Tree Kangaroo exhibit due to open? Will be visiting for the first time in early June hopefully will be open by then.

You're not being pedantic, atleast I don't think you are anyway.
Hyperthyroidism is over active thyroid
Hypothyroidism is under active thyroid

My daughter has hypothyroidism, but I don't know which Tripa has.
