That surprises me, thought it was ITV Survival. Okay, accepted. My point remains however, irrespective of which channel aired the programme.
I'm afraid I struggle watching any BBC Natural history show if narrated by David Attenborough. He has bored me for decades and always reminds me of when a child, that horrible Sunday evening feeling!

No they shouldn't. Animal management policy should never be based on popular culture.

I'd prefer to see any popular culture species held rather than a patch of grass!
Popular culture species engender interest, they're lynch pins for education. And, don't forget the zoo has to be commercially minded or it can't survive.

I would take what the narrator says on Secret Life of the Zoo with a pinch of salt.
Mountain Chickens have bred previously at Chester Zoo.

8 bred in 2011, 2 did not survive and 10 in 2013.

Thee aquarium special also said that Chester wanted to achieve a UK first breeding of Omani Blind Cave Fish. Impossible, they did that in 1992.

A previous series mentioned that they wanted a UK first breeding of Lowland streaked tenrec, their sp[ecimes were bred in the UK.

I think they need better researchers.

Thanks for the info. Sadly I think TV in general doesn't seem to care much for accuracy - as long as its a good story that viewers will buy into, anything goes. Personally I think its wrong but I can't see it changing much.

As an aside, I wonder why the Mountain Chicken breeding at Chester has stalled after previous success?

Re. London's lion exhibit, I've taken yet another look. I like the concept, but the execution is a mess. Shame they didn't bulldoze the entire area and start again.
 
Has anyone heard anything about a male Tree Kangaroo arriving at Chester? Someone on Twitter has mentioned one settling in, sounds legit but would appreciate if anyone can confirm this potentially exciting news!

In the Belfast thread, you'll see I've mentioned par their website that they sent a tree-kangaroo to Chester, which is easily a male, so that should answer your question.

I saw two of them on my last visit: the consensus among the Chester regulars who I consulted on Facebook was that they are common toads which had found their way into DinD.

That was my assumption, but I couldn't figure out how they'd got in there.
