Chester Zoo Game

Meerkat as there's so damn many of them they don't bother with names they just use numbers.

Nope! As I say, the numbers are clues to letters that make up the name. All of them periodically represent either a single letter or pair of letters. ;)

are you a fan of Countdown? I just discovered that show existed this week and have been watching episodes on Youtube.

Nicobar Pigeon.

You kind of gave it away completely with the second clue :p

I knew I probably would, but it was hard to hint without giving it away! Once the numbers-to-letters part was cracked I knew it would be pretty straighforward. I really should insist on seeing your working, however... ;)

Everyone is, aren't they?

For anyone not knowing what is going on, google the periodic table to get the numbers which represent the letters, and then rearrange them.

It makes so much more sense now! I tried doing it just using the alphabet and it got very strange.

the UK gets the best gameshows. I haven't had a tv for years so I have no idea what plays in NZ, but in the UK I like QI, Countdown, obviously Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Do you still have that Animal Vegetable Mineral programme from thirty years ago?

Countdown seems to be 80% a comedy show, and then they shove in some letters and numbers to make up the time. (Coincidentally, the Australian version of that show, which I came across accidentally, is actually called Letters And Numbers. Australians sure are clever.).

I've tried watching clips of Pointless, but I can't quite get the hang of it properly.

okay, so I have two clues for this one. I think one is super easy but that might just be because I already know it. I'll start with the harder one first, and see how we go.

This bird used to be known as "phalacrocorax" before that name was attached to cormorants.

Red-billed chough, since cormorants were formerly known as 'sea ravens' and the word corax is in their Latin name.

So we are looking for a bald raven... Could it be vultures by any chance?
well someone knows their ancient Greek.

It isn't a vulture, but here's a pre-clue - if I'd used the second clue first (that is the "easy" one I haven't given yet), I think you would have got it easily.

Pointless is great. I also have two words for you: Only Connect.

You can thank me later.
