The 'blushing' in my original clue was a reference to red colouration on the face.

could it be that your answer is a Rhinoceros hornbill Buceros rhinoceros?

located next door to one of its same genus Buceros the Greater hornbill Buceros bicornis, in what was many years ago the gorilla enclosures at Chester.

Also, the Rhinoceros Hornbills suit the blushing part of the riddle more than their Greater relatives which are not so 'rosy billed'.

Getting closer- both taxonomically and in terms of location within the zoo
 
As this thread seems to have died somewhat, i'll add that this species is endemic to the Philippines, and Zootierliste lists Chester as the only UK holder of this species.
