Chester zoo now produce there maps in a leaflet form (as I call them) I was wondering if anyone could help please?
When did they start them and which species were involved on the front covers and what year please?

I do love looking at old Chester Zoo maps and discovering what species the zoo had in those years, and seeing how much the zoo has changed as well.
The zoo leaflets finished in 1979 or 1980. An early guide book was published in 1977, 1979 and 1981. This consisted of a fold out map at the front. The rest of the book was made up of photographs.
The first modern guide book appeared in 1982 and had penguins on the cover.

Will be updating with a few more maps shortly but a question I would like you lovely people to answer if possible.
The current format for the map guide is a fold out one does anyone know exactly when they started and which species have been used for the front of the fold out please?

I do not know when they started.
The first one I remeber having was 1967 and polar bear on the cover.

In 1971 the format changed and the cover picture was a drawing of the head of a Grant's Zebra. The background was different colours.

1974 blue
The drawing was changed to an African elephant in 1975. The background colours were
1975 green
1976 purple
1977 orange
In 1978 the drawing was of baby elephant Jubilee and mother Judy. The background colours were
1978 orange

Unfortunately I no longer have my 1967,1968,1969 and 1970 maps.
