Don't know if I have missed this but does anyone know why they now have a Cheetah in the old Southern Cassowary enclosure.

Because the Cassowary moved to Islands and Mammal department wanted the exhibit back (it was originally there's). Cheetahs were chosen for it because that's what it originally housed and at that time they needed more space for a growing group (hence mum and daughter were moved)
 
It is KT and her daughter, the zoo want to breed from the other female so KT has moved. This information is in addition to what Nisha told you.
 
I was looking at Aalborg Zoo's African tropical house and their exhibit for the Pygmy Hippo they keep inside the tropical house looks fantastic but it got me thinking that this is perhaps what Chester's tropical realm could be converted into this as both houses look very similar.

This would also mean that a piece of the zoo's history would be restored with Pygmy hippo's previously being housed in the tropical house it would also mean that this part of Chester is not knocked down which is looking more likely as Chester would most probably want to build a new tropical house as well as having Monsoon Forest.

Don't get me wrong I love the tropical house and don't mind it as it is but I think another use would be needed for it to enable it to be kept.
With housing Pygmy hippos in their not all of the house would be used and so it means that most of the species at the back and middle of the house could be used as the Pygmy hippos would probably best be kept where the hornbills are (previously where the gorilla where kept) as that would then allow them to have access to an outdoor exhibit which is where the Red river hogs are now.

Given the number of leaks in the roof when it rains,they would be better off knocking it down and starting again!Also does anyone know if Africa will be in this part of the zoo when all the zoning is completed,because if it isn't converting part of the building for Pygmy Hippo would be a waste of time and money,given the fact that it is pretty much life expired NOW!

I thought that it would be better used as a Madagascan exhibit, either as is or as a new build. This would also put the zoo's lemurs more on show which seems to be in line with most zoos now. I expect that families will almost be looking for a lemur walk through at Chester as they are now common place.

The point on my post was to try and make it clear that just because a species is currently kept,in a certain part of the zoo does not mean that it will always be the case,for example where the Spectacled Bears are currently is nowhere near were South America will be in the future plans of the zoo,also just because the Giraffes have always been kept where they are doesn't mean that sometime in the future they could be moved over to where the Black Rhino's are!!No building is safe a part from Oakfield House and the Stable Block,all the rest can and will be demolished at somepoint in the future even RORA or even Monsoon Forest!!
 
It is also true that future plans are just that. Plans are much easier to change than real buildings :)

Well I know that some people in the zoo wanted it open for members day,but they didn't win that one!!It will open when the Curator of mammals and his staff are happy with how they are settled that could be within the next week or 2 or the next 2 months!!!
 
A couple of quick questions did or have Chester ever kept Black bellied whistling duck or Black necked weavers around 2010 or before and if so are they still there or have they left if so were did they go?
