A couple of quick questions did or have Chester ever kept Black bellied whistling duck or Black necked weavers around 2010 or before and if so are they still there or have they left if so were did they go?

I know of no red-billed (black-bellied) whistling ducks kept at Chester. the weavers arrived in 2010 and one male is in the Tropical house.

I have now found a sign for the Black billed/Black bellied/West indian whistling duck it looks like it was from the wetland aviary it's dated 08 / 06 / 2010 but didn't have a sign for the Weaver's many thanks for the info on the weaver's bongorob.

Adrian,

black-billed and black-bellied whistling ducks are not the same species, they are Dendorygna arborea (blck-billed, cuban, West Indian) and D.autumnalis (black-bellied, red-billed)

I first remember the black-billed in the old waterfowl enclosure south of the small mammal house, approximately where the reed bed now is. I was very excited when they arrived as I'd necer seen the Cuban whistling duck (as they were called at the time) before.

I'd like to see spotted whistling duck which are very similar to D.arborea, but I've not had any luck with that species. The last one I know of in the UK was at hillside and it died about a week before I visited.

Sorry bongorob my mistake can't understand why I actually put black bellied in the last reply but hey thank you for your help.

Don't know whether Tilgate nature centre still have spotted whistling duck these days but according zootierliste they do but would love to see them myself.

I added the Spotted Whistling Duck to the ZTL listing for Tilgate after my visit in December 2015. They were signed, and I have a picture of the sign, however I seem not to have pictures of the ducks themselves though I think I would have seen them, otherwise I would have noted that in the edit (I think. I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention to them since I had seen them in several places that year.)

Are Asian Elephants Sithami and Sundara pregnant ? A friend who went in the last couple of weeks asked because they thought one was larger than usual (so they seem to think) Through the process of elimination I have narrowed it down to these. Trip to Chester is planned this year although it will be before or after summer holidays

It was confirmed on Secret Life of the Zoo that they had two confirmed pregnancy's

Any idea when the Wetland aviary will be reopened.

Will they be adding to the species or just keeping the species from before.

Have the refurbished the hide and unlocked the windows, I know it was a problem with people throwing rubbish out of them but a bit of netting would stop that.

Adrian you may have a long wait, the diggers have churned up the grass and the bird keepers do not want to put ducks there until it has grown back. I've not heard of any new species, we'll have to wait and see.

It should not be too long, there was a problem with the lighting which had to be fixed.

Cheers for the replies, do we know if they will have acess to the outdoor island, if not what could this be used for in future?
