Unusual bird in monsoon forest today - didn't see any keepers to ask what it was, not signed... Any ideas?

Not aware of anything new in there - any distinguishing features? :D

Evening all haven't been up to Chester in the last few days and will be a few weeks til I next visit I know the enclosure will be dark but if anyone can get any pictures of the Aye Aye enclosure and post them on here it would be much appreciated, I seen the off video of the Aye Ayes on Facebook but not the enclosure, entrance, signage etc.

Did it look like this (considering they look unusual and are recent arrivals so I'm putting two and two together...)?

Photography of the aye-ayes will be impossible I think.

I'll take that as a challenge ;)

Alan

Edit: I have just checked out the video again and I think it was taken with infra-red. So ordinary photography is going to be a real challenge

Unless they're issuing everyone with night-vision goggles on entry, I'm hoping that there will be at least some light in the area, however dim. ;)

Anyone know yet whether there will be any 'lights on', or 'twilight', period during public opening hours (as at Bristol, for example)?

Good questions! I may just air them at Tim's 'Walk and Talk' session this weekend ;)

I went for a look yesterday and the lighting was not too bad, the only problems were caused by people who barged straight in without allowing their sight to get used to the low lighting level, despite signs telling them to do so before you enter the bit where the enclosure is.

I spent ages looking for the male in his encluosure wiithout sucess, so I moved to the female enclosure, and to my surprise they were together.

I don't think there will be a lights on period wwhile the zoo is open.

Any sign of the jumping rats, or is it just the aye-ayes on display?

Of course Bristol opens at 9, don't know if that makes a difference, I guess you can con them into thinking any time is day/night.

Serval have left the collection. Great Indian Hornbills (in Tropical Realm) are currently offshow due to work on the enclosure

No way! Gutted Serval have left the collection as the one left was always very friendly and was magnificent to watch leaping in the air!

That's a great shame used to sit and eat my sarnies and watch the Servals anyone know what will replace them please?

Any idea what will replace the serval? Also noticed today that there was only one female lion in the enclosure whats the reason behind this?
