Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2021

Didn't seem that way from the tweet if so :rolleyes:o_O Apologies
The tweet is only advertising the show really and not saying there is a new birth. I'm just watching now and the show mentions Solo as being the pair's previous offspring, so this one is from 2019 ... we all know the show's timeline is a bit off ;)

Sounds to me like I should be watching it :p

Believe this is the calf from 2019.

Yes I did a quick internet search and Rony was born in July 2019! Not sure why it has taken so long for some of this stuff to appear on the programme although there has been a pretty long gap between series, maybe its a case of saving content up until there is enough interesting material to make up a full series? It does feel very out of date though, at least two of the keepers in the title sequence no longer work there, and sadly dear old Thi Hi-Way is no longer with us now.

That said, I'm really happy that the series is back and I did enjoy the first episode very much!

It’s does feel like this series should’ve aired last year. Usually there’s at least one new series guaranteed every year. However, would Channel 4 have been allowed into the zoo to film during the lockdowns? It doesn’t seem to have affected the filming of Animal Park at Longleat.

I think you'll find this is the remainder of last year's series (filmed in 2019) that was cut short after about 3 episodes in 202, (then we had some useless "best of" episodes later in the year).

I emailed CH4 at the time to ask when they would be shown and they said "later in the year". Obviously held back even longer. May be mixed in with 2020 footage (if any) to bulk it out.

No doubt we will get the usual Christmas episode, with all the leaves on the trees, sun shining, etc!

Does anyone know how many baby chimps Chester have had in recent years? I was finally able to come up to visit a couple of weeks ago and noticed a rather small looking baby staying quite close to a couple of the adults in the house before it was carried away by one of them. There were 2 larger but still young chimps playing up at the top of their tower, but the signage on the outside enclosure has not been updated since they had Stevie in 2018, so I’m not sure who the other larger young one is or if the smaller one has been born more recently? I have found articles from both 2019 and 2020 that mention chimp births at the zoo, but neither of them include their names or any following updates, and the smaller one I saw seemed much too small to be nearly one year old!

The baby chimp born after Stevie is called Annie - named after Annie Lennox. There was another but I can't remember the name, although I'm pretty sure it was a female.

I've seen the latest baby referred to as 'Toyah' by a few visitors (presumably after Toyah Wilcox).

SLOTZ reveals that the Spectacled Bears may have mated (how old are the twins now?) and they're building a new enclosure for the Lions.
Next week - a generous benefactor pays for Punch the Polar Bear to have a new enclosure.

I get the frustration to an extent, but most viewers probably won't know or care when this stuff happened. Its still an interesting record of events at the zoo, even if its not exactly up to date. Personally I enjoyed tonight's episode a lot!
