Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2022

I think the porcupines and warthogs are moving over their hence why their signage had been removed in their usual exhibits and the wild dog and rhino will probably remain in the same exhibits they currently are residing in and the other change is also the giraffes moving over and I heard this somewhere that the current giraffe enclosure will be converted into a gorilla house

Interesting, I love Secretarybirds hopefully the exhibit would replicate the natural habitat and successful breed them.
What’s the progress with the grassland area so far?
Will the Black Rhino reserve and the wild dog exhibits will be renovated to be merged or themed to the new zone?

No new construction has started in that area yet, as far as I know the rhino and dog area won't really change much, more so the surrounding paddocks. I'm not sure what the fate of the current aviaries will be but I know that vultures will be moving to Grasslands so who knows... The giraffes are moving over yes (and I believe they will be mixed with the zebras?) and some other animals like blesbok which are currently at the zoo. Gorillas are planned for Forests at some point in the future, I imagine where the giraffe house is currently would make sense for them but I expect a lot of the older buildings in that area to be demolished so it would probably be a new building.

Where abouts in the zoo are the blesbok because it says on ztl that here a 0:2 females

Ok thanks by the way does anyone know the group size of the capuchin group because it doesn't seem as big and as active as they used to be

They are in the former bongo enclosure between the parrot breeding centre and wetland nursery, they aren't signed and most of the fencing is covered in overgrown plants but you can see them.

One of the Blesbok was quite close to the fence and very visible on Sunday.

At the AGM last year it was announced that consruction for grasslands will start in 2023 and the area will open in 2026.

The plans are on Cheshire West and Chester Coumcil planning applications site. I was going to paste a link but the planning site is closed for maintenance until 6th February.

Does anyone know what's happening to the section of the zoo where the former anteater/ pademelon and the former serval and cassowary exhibits

It's off show permanently as far as I know. Also I think you should use the other Chester thread to ask questions as this one is only for official news.

According to the zoo's instagram, this afternoon a very special annoucement will be placed on their social media channels.
Judging from the photo on their instagram post and replies to this, the annoucement is about the birth of an Aardvark (Orycteropus afer) who was named Dobby.
