Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2022

Although it has already been announced by bongorob in post #427, Chester Zoo have now announced on their Facebook page the successful hatching of ten Parson's chameleons. It is said that this is the first time this species has bred in a UK zoo.
Fantastic, good job Chester!

Bongorob, are they the baby Parson's Chameleons that we saw the other week in Tropical Realm or were they Panther?

I went to Chester Zoo on 12th October. It was not long ago that I visited on two successive dats with James Barber. I thought I had lost all my photos from those two days, so I wnet to try and replace them. I needent have done so, I later found my missing photos which had saved to my hard drive instead of my desktop.

There are solar panels on the roof of the toilet block near to June's.

Work is taking place on the meerkat house roof.

Two wooden structures have been erected near to the chimps and lemurs. I don't know what they are for.

The zebra and roan antelope have been moved offshow. A sign on the zebra paddock announces the start of Heart of Africa project.

African White-backed Duck is signed in the waterfowl nursery. I think they have bred them this year, a Chester Zoo first.

Talking of signs Bornean River Turtle are still signed in Tropical Realm.

New invertebrates are on show in the aquarium. Tuxedo Urchin (Morpsilia globulus) and Common Starfish (Asterias rubens). I failed to see the urchin but going by the label it is a very nice species.

My visit was on a cold day, so I went to have a hot dog to warm up. Until I saw the price was £5.95. I won't pay that much.

I think the building next to the chimp house has been there a whole. I’m sure I noticed it last December.

That wooden structure behind the Lemur walkthrough does look really odd and out of place but I guess it will be used for something. I think I have noticed the other wooden structure by the Chimps on some previous zoo vlogs on YouTube.

What is the plan for the current Meerkat house as it is not part of the new plans? According to the plans, the Meerkats are moving to roughly where the old monorail station was.

A quick look at ZTL and I saw Chester now holds
Golden Nugget Plec and Carter's Rock Gecko.

My brother has kept the plec, and they are a nice looking fish. He had them in the early 1990s when they had yet to be described.

The fish does look very nice, and that along with the gecko are both seldom held in collections according to ZTL. Nice to see these pop up.

I was told by one of the rangers that the wooden structure behind lemur walkthrough is for bats to roost in case of disturbance caused from work on the roof of the stable block during the refurb of this area.

I think the wooden cladding behind chimps is a new outdoor off show area in case they need to split the group.

The chimp one is for Boris Friday and Nicky so they still have a decent area on days there not allowed out to main island
