Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2023

The large heath butterfly (Coenonympha tullia) reintroduction programme that Chester Zoo has been involved with (the zoo receive adult butterflies and breed them, releasing the new butterflies once they emerge from their chrysalises) in Greater Manchester has been described as a success, with the population flourishing and breeding strongly.
There were two reintroductions in 2020 and 2022, with a third release at a new site scheduled for summer 2023.
