Great news to start the year with correct me if I'm wrong but is the first to be born in europe
No, not the first. At Tierpark Berlin, a young was born in late 2021. This one was born two weeks early and died the same day. Section showed that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. Not long after, the two adult males in Berlin died, leaving them with only two females.

That is fantastic news. I can't wait to hopefully get back to Chester Zoo later in the year.
Was at Chester yesterday, unfortunately didnt know about the Safika Birth.
But a very young infant in the Mandrill enclosure with about 5 other youngsters within the troop.
Also noticed the new access road and land being cleared ready for start on 'Heart of Africa' Development.

It has now.
ZeeZee gave birth to a healthy male infant on December 9th.
He's not yet named, and brings Chester's troop to 22.

Wait so isn't this the first male chimp to be born for almost 18 years because wasn't Carlos the last male born
It is, Carlos was born back in 2005; eighteen years ago.
Didn't I see a baby sifaka some years ago at the Cotswold Wildlife Park. I think so...
Yes and maybe at Belfast as well.
Yes, but those were crowned sifaka. Chester has the Coquerel's sifaka, a species that has only been kept in Europe since 2021.

The baby Sifaka is about 2 weeks old according to keepers.
Baby chimp has just been mentioned on BBC Radio Stoke. I had to listen to 37 minutes of absolute drivel before Dr Nick Davis, assistant curator of mammals, gave a short interview. It was a typical media response with mentions of monkey business and other annoying statements. Also everyone that works at Chester Zoo is now a conservationist.
I always think its rather strange how certain zoo events, some of them,( like this one), not particularly uncommon, get to make the headlines in a big way, yet others go almost completely unremarked on. Just depends on whether the press and broadcasters take up the story or not, I guess.
