Snow Leopard Habitat Update

Chester Zoo snow leopard habitat plan given the green light

Plans are now in place to transport a male and female snow leopard to the zoo at some point in 2024.

The 1,500 sq m area is to be built on part of the zoo which currently houses the blesbok (antelope) habitat and wetland bird nursery, which would be relocated to the Conservation Breeding and Management Area (CBMA) located on Caughall Road.

Work on the new snow leopard habitat is expected to begin at the end of April. It is hoped it will be ready to open in spring 2024.

Very confusing. It says snow leopard numbers are declining but also says snow leopards have been upgraded from endangered to vulnerable.

I'm pretty sure there was confusion and concern when it's status was changed, partly I think because the method of assessment was changed and the conclusion was the decrease in numbers is not as severe as previously thought.

Chester zoo announced free entry to mums with a fee paying child or adult over the weekend. It resulted in around 10,000 visitors on Saturday and caused the car park to be full and closed on Sunday with traffic queues on the surrounding roads. I know the car car park is large but does anybody know how many cars can the car park hold.

It's possible some of the overflow car parks were too waterlogged for parking, so that may have limited spaces

6,000 free parking spaces, and 240 premium parking spaces at £5 a car. I'm assuming this includes spaces on the grass which were not available on Suday.

Is the premium parking back. I know ow they tried it a few years back, but not been used recently
