I went to Chester yesterday, the weather was better than I expected, just a bit of rain around oneish. The zoo was not busy apart from lots of school parties, many of the age group which I don't like, under 10s. They just run around nosily, get in people's way and probably scare some of the animals into hiding for the rest of the day.
I was surprised to have my bag searched. Good luck with this policy in July and August when there are thousands of visitors a day. It seems to be a waste of time.
The female Great Indian Hornbill in Elephants is in the nesting log and was being fed by the male. The aviary outside now has Cabot's Tragopans.
Mitchell's Lorikeets were in a holding aviary in the Bali walk-through.
A photographer was stationed outside the exit to Monsoon Forest. No one semed to want a picture.
The old Phillipine Spotted Deer enclosure is empty.
Spectacled Owls are back in their aviary and Spectacled Bears are still labelled at their usual enclosure.
In RORA the tree monitor viv has a label calling it Blue Tree Monitor, but all I saw was a nice big locust. Mangrove Snake viv was empty. Couldn't see into the others because of the amount of children in the house, but since they seemed to be looking at things, I assume everything else is still in there, except for the Malayan Giant Katydids.
Again failed to see the Asian Giant Toads (also Mountain Chicken Frogs). Since these two species are permanent no shows, I have my doubts if they are actually in their respective vivs.
In Dragons In Danger I did not see the baby Komodos, but I've seen others in the past, so not a problem. Madagascan Blue Stick Insect viv is empty again, but there are some in butterflies along with the very impressive Violet-winged Grasshoppers.
I did see a Siamese White-crested Laughing Thrush for the first time.
The Malawi Cichlids are in the aquarium and the Okapi House.
