Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2024

Iblis the male Asiatic Lion was off show all day yesterday, does anyone know if he’s ok?
Recently one of the females passed away so a little worried

Visited on Tuesday and managed to see the all mythical Mountain Chicken :p
Was sitting under a leaf to the left of the pool at the front, so I can confirm they do actually exist
Wow, good spot. Apparently only one is in the Dragons in Danger enclosure and three are kept off-show. I did notice some other new things unmentioned so I shall report on them soon.

Now the giraffes have moved, is anything (temporarily at least) going in the giraffe paddock? From what I remember from my visit (admittedly a long time ago) it was a fairly large enclosure

The most logical would the Bongos, but as the move would only be temporary, and they are breeding happily offshow, would the zoo risk moving them, for a short period of time, just to move them back offshow again

You have gotten the gibbons mixed up. ‘Darwin’ is a male siamang who lives at Twycross. ‘Eko’ is a male silvery gibbon who moved to Twycross earlier this year.

Don't know ow about soon, but last plans were to remove it and the tropical house for the next phase, a African forrest zone, and as they can't move the chimps until a new house is ready, that site may be theblocation for there new home. Should find out more something after the HoA is finished and fully open.

Ah ok I see, thank you

The new addition of Zoo Grapevine mentions three exciting births at Chester which I haven't seen reported on elsewhere in this thread, or any of the other news threads, but apologies if they have been and I missed it:

- 0.0.9 Bermuda Skinks (Plestiodon longirostris)
- 0.0.8 Parson's Chameleons (Calumma parsonii)
- 0.1 Bronze-tailed Peacock-pheasant (Polyplectron chalcurum)
